MAC Holiday/Trip Brush Sets

Hey everyone! So I looked everywhere trying to get an answer and I figured the best thing to do was to post on here and get everyone's opinions so that I know what to do. This may get lengthy, so please bear with me lol...

I bought the basic and advanced brush collections from the 2010 Trip Collection because I saw it online and jumped on it. I knew that you used to only be able to buy these at airports and I bought them without really thinking about it, thinking this would be a good solution to having backups of certain brushes that I really love (ex: 219, 224, 187) instead of purchasing them again individually. I noticed that these brushes are basically MAC's holiday brushes, just in different packaging. (I may be wrong) But then when I started looking online and actually researching, I found out that's it not the same quality as the regular brushes that you buy on your own (which completely makes sense and I don't know why I didn't think about that; MAC brushes bought individually are hand made, these are not.) The next day I was at the MAC store and asked the MA who I was close to for her opinion and she said that they were good to have around for travel, but not to use like I do with my other brushes because they're def not the same. She said she bought them for her mom who is not a makeup person and she is happy with them, but for people who do their makeup on a daily basis, these will not hold up.

I can lie to myself and say that I will use these whenever I travel, but truth of the matter is, I know when that time comes, I won't pack them. I know I will just take my brush roll and use my regular brushes. So now, to my question...

Are these decent brushes that I can incorporate into my routine, or should I just return them? I want to get more than one person's opinion on this. TIA!

there are countless threads on this topic. the brush sets are good for travel and as starter kits for those new to brushes. they are not recommended for everyday, regular usage.

personally i dont even recommend them for travel anyways because they're not the same as the regular size ones. i would recommend them to any newbie makeup artist or any one new to make up. i bought two of the holiday sets last year and they were terrible!!.... i really hate them to use even for touch ups when i go out. they shed like crazy!!! anyway the color and result payoff is not the same.

Thanks! This is what I was looking for.

I second the comments made here. I would recommend investing in a good set of brushes because the travel sets are not as high quality as the regular ones.

I would return them too. I bought a holiday set that came with a cute black fringe clutch to hold them and couldn't believe how different the quality was on a couple of the brushes. With the 266se I didn't a notice difference but the 239se it came with wasn't good at all! Overall they are much better then most drugstore kits, I'd reccomend them for teenagers just getting into MAC. You can always just test them out to see which you love and hate, then sell the others separately too. I didn't realize the quality was different when I bought my set.

i got my first holiday brush kit back in 2007 and afterusing them reasonably regularly they are all still pretty much ok. my 129 brush is no where near as soft as my full size and for some reason the bristles look slightly plum in colour rather than black now. but i honestly find the mini brushes ok.
