MAC MA | Salary ?

Life In Return

I am currently working as a supervisor in retail. There is a MAC store opening at a mall nearby in March. I am debating on applying there. Can anyone who works at one tell me what the pay is like ? You don't have to tell me numbers, but just a general figure. Thanks, guys; really appreciate that

The pay is NICE for a retail job...the highest paying cosmetics line as far as I know from my own experience. For example, Benefit Cosmetics was offering a starting salary of almost HALF of what MAC was starting their holiday contract people, but, MAC employees do not get commission. I think it would definitely be worth applying. I'm not sure if there would be a huge difference between the States and Canada regarding this, though.

I know that the Nordstrom's MAC workers get commission. I work at a Macy's and we don't. but I know the nordstrom girls do.

I think the Nordstrom's MAC employees are actually employed by Nordstrom's and not by MAC as far as I know. That would mean that their pay scale would not be as high as actual MAC employees who don't get commission. Are the MACs in Macy's separate like the MACs here in the The Bay (the major dept. store in Canada)? Or are you actually employed by Macy's?

I was wondering what the pay is like in Canada. I shop at mac so much the girls that work there were just like "why don't you just work here?!" But I dont want to take a big pay cut......

They start their holiday hires at $15/hr and then work up pretty quickly from there if you are kept on.

I think I speak for all the MAC ladies/men who work for the company, when I say we're well taken care of. I've actually been an assistant manager before and I worked my tail off and I make better money working at MAC as a part time associate. Plus, who wouldnt want to work around makeup all day long.

I was wondering this as well because I work as a valet parker and make anywhere from $13/hr on a lousy day to $20/hr on an average day to $25++/hr on a good day and I looove MAC but I LOOOOVE my job I have now as well (I basically get paid to exercise and help people at the hospital, which feels great). I just know I can't keep it up forever because it is very hard physically and takes a toll on my health sometimes. I was planning on graduating with a major in communication disorders and doing interpreting work, but I just feel that something in the makeup/fashion/even design world would suit me so much better, so I have been trying to change my major... getting in with MAC would make me feel like it was possible, but I can't afford to take a pay cut, either...

Lol sorry for the blah blah blah, basically what I'm thinking is it might be a good idea to get a part time job there for the holidays (when valet is abnormally slow) and see if they keep me on/if I want to make a career of it?

My one friend started out at 18 an hour, however this was over a year ago so it might have gone up since then.

Good luck!

in hawaii i herd that they start at 14 then work their way up the scale....but im sure its not like an auto raise...only if they like you or u do good on your annual employee evaluation they bump your pay up but i also herd the top pay in a mac store is up to 25-30 bucks YEAH!thats only if u get certified in everything such as runway stage movie pagents etc etc..there are about 4-8 things u can get certified in.

Damn, you get paid well at Shopper's!

Also, does anyone know if they pay commission to MAs anywhere in Canada (specifically in the GTA)? There are some MAs that I'd rather give most of my business to!

Isn't it also hard to come by a full time position for MAC? I guess they mostly hire PT and I presume you don't get any sort of medical benefits that way (which makes it cheaper overall for the company).

This is what I was told once, and it's the only thing that makes it not worth it for me to work for EL/MAC

My region starts at $17 for regular days & $18 for events....the hours you get depend on what you're available & how busy your location is. I was getting up to 40 hours a week during holiday, but now I work only about 1-2 days a week. Prepare to be available on weekends-that's when they seem to need people the most, and to gt more hours, once hired, you can put your name on the Freelance list for several locations so you have a better chance of being called in.
The lack of consistency and hours is a struggle sometimes, but I just couldn't turn down the opportunity at the time-the pay is like twice as much as my previous job & way more fun.

Let me ask you ... for freelance, do they not want people that have other commitments? For instance: school. Do you just let them know when you're NOT available and then they call you the day before? lol I've not really understood how the freelance system works.
