MSF- HELP!

So I hear how amazing the msf's are. However I am super stumped on what to get and if they will work for me.

First off, I hear they are shimmery and not good for oily large pored skin (like mine!). Should I stay away entirely?

Secondly I'm looking for a nice peachy pink that can be used all over- not for highlighting and not a blush. Any recs? There's so many out there it's hard to choose and again, with my skin type I worry they might not work at all. I've also heard of some people having breakouts from them? Typically MAC foundations/concealers break me out (plus I don't like em) so I stay away, but I'm kinda surprised this product would break you out.

Finally, I'm kinda confused about the msf blushes vs. msf vs. the msf for is it setting powder? I'm not sure honestly. I think the blushes would be a big no no for me, the msf that are like neutral or dark just the plain colored not the baked colors- what exactly are those for?

I really want some color to look alive and youthful! Any thoughts on this would be helpful. Hope this doesn't seem too worded funny- I'm confused myself lol.

(Also I see MAC has some blushes that seem to do this- are they for blush or more of a face color?)

I have oily skin and large pores, but MSFs are one of my favourite products. As long as you use a silicon based primer that will fill in the pores, and you use a foundation that is appropriate for your skintype, it should be okay. You don't have to use MAC, but maybe try mineral foundations without bismuth oxychloride in it. Oil control powders are good too.

I wouldn't use any msf all over the face. IT would look like a discoball.

One type of MSF is MSFN which is basically a mineralize powder compact with light coverage. People use it as a foundation or setting powder. There isn't any shimmer in it, and it could be used as a bronzer/contour if you use a darker shade.

The msf blushes (smaller sized) is a 2 in 1 product. It is a blush with a shimmery finish, so you don't need any highlighters.

The larger msf are mostly highlighters, but some may wear it as blush if it is pigmented enough. I use them as highlighters.

Unfortunately, the msf highlighters are mostly limited edition. Soft and Gentle is a nice permanent one that will give you a glow, but it isn't pigmented enough to come off as peach. Just apply it to the upper cheek bones where the sun ususally hits your face and it will give you a youthful glow. The blushes will give you glow AND color.

You could also wait around for the summer collections to roll around. There will be some nice msf products.

I think that if you get one that isn't too shimmery you should be fine. Especially if you focus it on the tops of your cheekbones!

Thanks for the great info.

I've always been curious about MSFN. Are they just like setting powder?

Soft and Gentle was just awful. I returned it asap.

Thanks again

the msfns are most commonly used as setting powders or powder foundation if you don't need heavy coverage- they're coming out with a couple new shades of MSFN that are more used as bronzers/ peachy highlighters :)
And thanks hun, I just posted the collection on my livejournal so I thought I'd share here :)

Thanks for the info. I've seen a lot of people use them and figured they were setting their foundation, but wasn't sure. Do you know what the coverage is like? I'm used to setting with loose powder. Do these have something special going for them or are they no big deal?

thanks

the coverage is pretty full I would say :) They've been likened to the revlon photoready powders in consistency and coverage soooo it's dupable and if you could find one at a CCO it's worth a shot, I like mine but I dont always grab for it.. I like my NARS powder foundation the best but it's a lot more expensive:)

Sorry now I'm confused. Is it powder foundation or simply a powder to set your foundation? If it's the latter, I'm using NARS loose powder and like it just fine. Would there be a reason to switch to this?

Thanks

What it sounds like you're looking for is the beauty powders, not MSFs. Some beauty powders, including recent ones, have had stronger payoffs but most (IIRC) have been quite sheer/subtle and aren't frosty or shimmery so you can use them all over. You can use the beauty powders everywhere and then use a complementing MSF to highlight. Unfortunately like the MSFs so many of the beauty powders have been LEs. Another option if you're open to looking at other brands are the Benefit powders, several of those can be used all over and built up on your cheeks if you want to use it as blush. Those at least you can try out in store.

I own soft and gentle as well. What I thought I would love I know seriously dislike and wasnt smart enough to return. Its just to shinny! I dont like all the shimmer and would prefer a more natural hightlight.
