Need help with watery eyes ...

I need help! My eyes water a lot (I don't have allergies just overactive tear ducts) ... and it ruins my shadows! I need something that'll help keep my shadow in place when my eyes start to water. My inner V is the only area that gets affected. I've used primers (both UDPP and Mac PP) but those don't help.

Does anyone know what I can use to help keep my shadow in place when my eyes start to water? I'm tired of having half my eyes with smeared/missing eyeshadow.

Thanks!

I had this issue when I use the paints but am fine when I use the paint pots. Maybe pick up one paint or have an artist do your make up with the paint and test it for a day and see so you aren't wasting money on product that you may not be happy with. Go in when you need to pick up other goodies and ask... can't hurt

There is also Too Faced Shadow insurance and Prep and Prime MAC and other primers I am sure you can look into.

I think everyone's skin reacts differently and you have to experiement til you find the right combo. I wish MAC had a failsafe recommendation for what's best for every skin condition, but then you have to factor in weather and all the other things that make us unique.

I feel your pain. My left eye is always watery and the tears always ruin my shadows on my inner corner too! I have both MAC P+P and Too Faced Shadow Insurance but they both don't help. Try to use waterproof eye shadows for the inner corner since that's the area where it always gets wet.

I've had this problem for years. I was finally diagnosed with dry eyes by my eye doctor. My eyes aren't producing the right kind of tears and my tear ducts aren't draining properly. My eyes are dry so they tear alot. I have to use artificial tears which I bought at a drug store. When the eyes are properly hydrated they tear up less. Also when the eye produces an over abundance so tears its supposed to drain in the tear ducts on the side of our noses. Which is why our noses run so much when we cry. I have to use hot compresses on the sides of my nose to open the ducts so they can drain. I just take a wash cloth, wet it with hot water and place it on my nose so that it covers both sides. This helps so much. When our eyes are dry they tear constantly. This can take over a year to heal.

When I'm diligent about doing this my eyes don't tear as much and when the do tear my nose starts running the way its supposed to. This has really helped me. I hope it can help you, too.

I"ve heard some Specktralites talking about using the Matte gel on the outer corners of their eyes to help from smearing. I wonder if it would work on the inner corners.

Thanks for the info. I'm not sure if I have dry eyes, so I should probably ask my optometrist.

Thanks everyone else for all the recommendations. I was wondering if there was a waterproofer to add to eyeshadows? I heard about some kind of facial spray that you can use to keep make up in place for hours. Anyone know of anything like that?

The only product that springs in to my mind is Benefit She Laq. Benefit advertises it as a clear liquid makeup sealer suitable for eye shadows. I don't have any experience with this product though so maybe a forumite who has can elaborate

The spray you are probably thinking about is "Model in a Bottle". i use it on brides, it sets the makeup and stays all day.
Benefit she laq is a good product too for eye makeup.

Ben Nye Liquiset and Ben Nye Final Seal are both for waterproofing, I think the Liquiset is eye safe but you'd have to look into that.

I went to see an ophthalmologist yesterday and had some checkup, I've dry eye too (only the left one!). She told me to use artificial tears like Tears Naturalle or Systane 2-3x a day. I've just started using it last night and hopefully the condition will get better soon.

If you can, get your eyes checked too. Maybe there's a way to help you from tearing so much

I have this same problem!! My eyes water constantly and i'm always wiping them.. In an effort to avoid messing up my makeup, I have tried a few different products..

My favourite and the best IMO is the Ben Nye Final Seal. I use it when I want my make up to stay in place ALL day (ie 10+ hours).. It works really well! It smells like mint and if you have sensitive skin it may sting a bit when you first spray it on.. But that only lasts a few seconds.. And then your makeup is definately sealed...

I also have the Make Up For Ever Eye Seal.. It comes in a tiny bottle that looks like eyedrops.. That works really well aswell, but it's kind of difficult to use as if you put it on before the eyeshadow, it's hard to blend the shadow.. And if you put it on after you have to be careful or else it smears your shadow and then sets it.. I haven't realyl got the hang of this stuff yet.. BUT.. I did test it by putting some on my hand, applying shadow, and then putting more on top.. I let it dry and then went to camp and went swimming.. That night, the shadow was still on my hand...

The 3rd product I've used is the Make Up For Ever Mist & Fix. This is the one I use on a daily basis.. It's not as strong as the Final Seal, so I prefer it for regular day to day use.. I for areas I want intense shadow, I usually put shadow on my 239, then spritz it with the Mist & Fix, then pat it on... To just seal the final look, I jsut sprits my eyes a few times once i'm done...

Oh, and I use Paint Pots as my base on a daily basis...

i actually have this problem too and I went to an optometrist who told me that it was because my lower lashes grow inwards as opposed to outwards. so the lashes keep rubbing against my eyeball causing them some serious irritation so that they water constantly. what i do is i just try to use waterproof mascara on my bottom lashes. sometimes it helps, sometimes not... my mom told me that her friend went and go a lash perm on her lower lashes but i dont know if i would do something so drastic hehe.

but the optometrist also told me i had dry eyes as well but never mentioned about the artificial tears. i might try this just to see if it'll help at all. HTH.

I went to see an ophthalmologist after reading this post and found out I have dry eye (only the left one). The doctor suggested artificial tears and I've been using it since. It does help a bit and my eye doesn't water that much anymore.

I posted on another thread about Gosh Velvet Touch eyeliners which are the best waterproof eyeliners I've tried. I used them as my base. I used cotton tip to pat the tears and the colours still stayed on after many hours.
