Should i be conditioning my brushes?

I bought the 239 brush 2 months ago and i clean it with baby shampoo but already the bristles feel kinds itchy and scratchy on me sometimes when applying shadow with it. Is that just because of my applying technique or should i be conditioning the brush? Is so how? Normal hair conditioner?! I'm not keen on buying any expensive potions to use on it at the moment.

i personally don't use conditioner on the brushes. have u tried the mac brush cleanser? it cleans and conditions the bristles pretty well. use 4 parts water to one part brush cleanser, swirly the brushes in that solution, then rinse with warm water. place them flat to dry and u r done!

I found them using the forums search function with the words Brush and Clean.

I opened this message because the links posted don't work. I'll look into that today.

heyy girrl. the woman at my mac counter in nordys told me that she uses any generic brand face wash too. because if its good enough to clean your face its good enough to clean your brushes. and because it has ingredients that help nourish, and add moisture to your skin it will help the fibers in the brush stay soft as well. cause i mean heyy if your using it on your face you want it to go on niice and smoooth right? hope this helped!!!

I wouldn't use it instead of a soap because you need to CLEAN them.

Never used conditioner on mine, just usual shampoo or a nice scented liquid hand soap. And let them dry over night.

Wash them and soak them every two to three months and they are FINE and have been lasting me FOREVER.

You know, sometimes I do and sometimes I don't. I think probably the best thing to cleanse them with would be a really gentle moisturizing shampoo. If baby shampoo is making your brushes scratchy, by all means, try something else.

I never even thought to use face wash...that's really good to know, thank you!

On my recent M·A·C course the trainer suggested treating brushes in a hot oil product every few months just as you would your own hair.

I use the kiddy two-in-one shampoo stuff to clean my brushes. then again, I use generic sephora brushes. I just have to make sure I rinse real well as to not leave any residue behind because then I get that sticky scratchy feeling you're talking about

I dont personally think you need to condition them, if you use the right cleaner...a lot of people use baby shampoo, others mac brush cleaner - but dont use it full strength...

I clean my brushes a lot and they're still really soft..
