Smokey Eye For the Daytime..

I don't think theres a thread like this already.

Anywho, I am trying to do smokey eyes with colors other than black/white. Anytime I go anywhere special I do black and white smokey eyes. Then I realized that I wear this no matter what time of day it is. I've worn this to the mall like last week and I was complimented on it but I'm not sure if I should continue wearing something so dark for daytime (plus I just need some more color suggestions).

I've done the brown and gold and cream colored eye but it wasn't really dark enough for me. (I love dramatic eyes). I need some more color combinations to try out rather than just brown/gold and black/white. Its getting boooring.

Thanks!

You can make any color shadow look smokey. For instance if you want to do pink on the lid & then I would put Black Tied/Carbon/Dark Soul in the crease...instant smokey. If you want to do purple on the lid, put Entremauve or Grape in the crease. Brown on the lid...Coco Beach or Chocolate Brown in the crease. Whatever color you choose, just put a darker color in the crease and there you go

when i want to smoke any look i do for the day time, i use my blak eye pencil (smolder or feline) to line my upper and lower lashline and then smudge it with my 219 brush, you can use a q-tip for that effect as well.

I never thought of this. I've seen people do it before, but I never thought to do it myself. this gives me so many more options. lol I'm so dumb

i have. with a silver shadow combined. I think I've been doing it wrong this whole time. Now instead of trying to do a super dark color and a white/silver color, I can do what MACATTAK said and do different shades of the same color. Well I only have bright green and a dark green so that may not work. Maybe if I tried a light brown on the lid and the dark green in the crease?

See I'm so used to doing my eyes one way. black on the outer half and white on the inner half blending into it. so I hardly even would think to use a crease color. Does that make sense?

I just tried this, this week. I started out using a Champagne color that i have from an Elizabeth Arden Duo, but then ending up putting in living pink over top that and Carbon in the crease. It looked really nice and very day appropriate.

I personally love a purple smokey look for the day.
The Earthly Riches MES duo is perfect for it.
First I use Sharkskin shadestick and line my eyes on the lid and under the eyes (but only the half outer edge of the bottom lid). Then I sweep the purple onto the inner half of the upper lid. Then I take the gray and sweep it over the rest of the sharkskin liner. And I take some more of the purple and add it to the bottom inner half corner. Then I extend the grey above and beyond the crease as well. Blend Sweet Sienna to the outer edge. Then add a highlight color and blend that as well!

This works for a daytime smoky eye because the grey isn't TOO strong like black, and purple makes it fun and brings out brown eyes!

And it's easy to convert to a dramatic evening look as well!
Just take some black tied and add it to the outer corner of your crease and blend it in. Line your eyes with blacktrack fluidline and there you go! =)

Hope that helps!

hey momma,

everybody seems to have all the "colored" smokey eyes covered so here is my take on your current eye. try silver ring on the lid, a smut crease and use carbon on the outer crease. smudge smut under the eye and go back with feline, smolder, or blacktrack fluidline and line under and on top the the eye to furthur define.

my favorite smokey eye is blue.
retrospeck as brow highlight
brun in the crease
freshwater, blu noir (discontinued), prussian, plummage, bang on blue (le) on the lid.
contrast, deep truth, cloudburst, carbon outer crease.

smudge the lid color under the eye as well. and then use blue or black fluidlines, liquidlasts, or pencils to line at the lash line.

i pair my blue smokey eye with peach cheeks and lips or pink cheeks an lips.

pink lemonade l/g and lychee luxe l/g are 2 of my favorites.

i can give you a tutorial if you need one

you can pretty much use any color to do a smoky eye.

i usually line my bottom lash with a black eyeliner and smudge then i apply the eyeshadow color on both my top and bottom lash line.

smudging is the key for this look as we all know, so i think the 219 brush is key!

pink, brown, green, blue, purple, orange, red.....pretty much any color works as a smoky eye look, but for the daytime, try a more softer color base for your look, such as pink, brown or a lavender shade. =)

I like brown smoky eyes. I use Groundwork pp all over the lid up to the browbone, then Sable on the outer half of the lid, Mulch in the crease and on the lower lashline and Carbon to line and on the outer V. Then I line with Richground fluidline, top and bottom. To finish it off, tons of black Zoomlash mascara primed with Prep and Prime Lash. The result is quite dramatical!!

I saw Stephie06 do a tutorial using tete-a-tint and typographic eyeshadows and it looked awesome so I bought them and they make a perfect toned down smokey look IMO

Haha I don't care what time of the day it is, I wear what I want. I probably shouldn't do that...but I don't care, haha.

Yeah me too. Or else I'll just wear really bright colours. I actually don't care though, just wear it with confidence. Most people are used to seeing it on me by now anyway haha. Though me without make-up = YIKES. Everyone always comments now, I guess that's the only downside, but luckily LiquidLast means I won't even have to go to the beach without make-up now haha.

If you have brown eyes this will make your eyes pop. Put a primer on (I love loreal hip paints!) all over your lid and brow bone ...a neutral colored primer. Satin taupe all over the lid then embark or a dark brown eyeshadow in your crease ..blend a lot ..use windsheild wiper motion. Make sure to create your V with the embark. Then add carbon or any black colored shadow on top of embark right in the middle of the crease ...just dont wipe out the embark and tons of mascara. Go over the satin taupe when ur done just so it shows up ..sometimes it fades with all the blending and thats it. Its a daytime smokey look.

I like doing smoky browns occasionally, with a combination of Twinks, Embark, and Satin Taupe. I've tried different variations of all three, and it always looks pretty : )

I love using Moth Brown e/s for a daytime smokey eye cos I find that it's just the right intensity as opposed to a Black smokey eye. Oftentimes I mix MB with a little purple like Creme de Violet and Parfait Amour (or any bright colored eyeshadow) to even make it more day appropriate. Shale is also another lovely color to combine with purple and such for a smokey look. Oh and Satin Taupe too!
