Man, I got all excited when I saw this on eBay. I finally thought that was my chance to get Melody, until I pulled it up. This is sooooo freakin' fake its disgusting. I don't care how bad the lighting is or whatever the seller says... that's freakin' GREEN! Not Turquoise! Plus... its a screw top pot. Melody came in flip-top. God, that's such garbage. Beware of this seller in the future!!!

There are a few comments I'd make. First is that older M·A·C shadows did indeed come in a screw top pot that looks absolutely identical to the photo posted by this seller. When I get my scanner working tomorrow I'll post a picture of an older pot from the same angle so you can compare.

The second comment is that many cameras are notoriously bad at achieving a correct colour balance. The camera may also have been set to the wrong type of light. If the shadow was photographed under regular fluorescent lights it would bring out the green colour more strongly than the blue. That may be what's happened here. I'd simply ask the seller to post another picture of the shadow showing the pot from an angle so that we can see the sides of the pot and in daylight and possibly the base too.

This may very well be a genuine older M·A·C Melody shadow. Melody is discontinued as opposed to Limited Edition. This means it could have been around long enough to have had a reformulation if one of its component pigments became unavailable in the past. This might have resulted in a small colour shift.

Yet another possibility is that the paper label underneath an old shadow has got worn or damaged so that it cannot be read. It has on some of my older screw top shadows and again I'll post a pic tomorrow to show you what I mean. The seller may have thought it was Melody even though it was actually another shade. This shadow has no box so that's perfectly possible.

At the moment I certainly wouldn't say this is definitely a fake. There simply isn't enough information to determine that yet.

I'm aware that MAC e/s's came in screw tops. And I have e-mailed the seller asking for them to take a picture of the bottem of the pot to confirm the authenticity of their item. I have yet to get a response. Also, if in fact the label on the eye shadow became worn and the name could not be recognized, then the item as a whole is no longer in a sale-able condition. And could no longer be advertised as "New". But I agree w/ one of the poster's above... it does look like Riot eye shadow.

I've had PLENTY of e/s pots in my collection that I pickup, ponder, and put down in favor of using a different color...after awhile, the print DOES wear off. I haven't swiped/tested the pan on any of those pots, yet they are still NEW.

I'm surprised that you would consider something "used" simply because the print was worn off...

Depotted e/s that haven't been swiped/tested are sold as "new"...are those items not to be considered new?

Well, its just in my opinion that's all. I just feel that, in my personal preference, I wouldn't consider an item that is up for sale new if the item is worn. If the eyeshadow itself is not used, ok fine. But if the packaging that it came in is damaged or shows signs of wear and tear, to the point that the name is unrecognizable, then I don't feel that it is still brand new. Regular stores don't sell items like that. Advertising an item as new better mean that it is in a condition that a counter or MAC store could still sell. That's all. And if in fact that is what happened to item, that they couldnt tell what color it was anymore, then they should state that. But at this point we don't know since the seller never responded. And in my preference I wouldn't purchase a product in that condition.

that definately could be melody... a flash obviously wasnt used and she took the photo in a shadow like area. its not the BEST photo of the color but that doesnt mean its fake. plus, melody DID indeed come in screw top form.
