A very important accessory that often gets ignored is the handbag.
Here are some things you may want to consider:
*Textured, shiny, patterned, over-sized, and multicolored handbags are often the primary focal point to viewers.
* When you carry the same handbag with every outfit (day/business/night/evening), it will often detract from your total ensemble.
* Adjust shoulder straps as needed. If you wear a bulking/chunky looking handbag at the widest point on your body, it will create the illusion that you are wider in this area.
* Many people assume that having a designer name handbag means it is dressy. This is not always the case. In fact, many of the very expensive designer name handbags are made with materials that classify them as very casual. Additionally, many designer name handbags have prints, patterns, or logos. These designs or logos do not always go with every outfit and will in many cases actually detract from one's total look. Therefore, it's a good idea to consider how these prints, etc. will actually benefit one's wardrobe possibilities.
* If you keep losing your keys in a tote or a briefcase, put them in a small clutch.
Sporty/casual handbags are usually made with any of the following: hard leathers, canvas, vinyl, straw, mesh, plastic, or cloth.
Dressy handbags are typically medium to small in size. The are made with very soft leather and/or finer fabrics.
Evening handbags are typically small to x-small in size. They are made from elegant fabrics, tapestry, and/or formed metals. These dainty handbags stand out with beading, jewel like stones, and sparkles.
Day handbags come in a wide variety of sizes. The materials found in day handbags are soft leather, suede, and reptile/skins. The clasps are usually metal or imitation bone. The handle can be metal or imitation bone as well.
In business, the standard is the briefcase. It is made from leather or padded vinyl. The shape is box style and the briefcase has a hand grip and/or shoulder strap.
On a special note, metallic handbags are very much in Vogue for a casual day look at certain times of the year. However, these metallic handbags are distinguished from the evening handbags, because they do not have the beading, jewelry like stones on them, elegant fabrics, and tapestry-like material on them.
Last comments: I hope you find these tips useful. While I am not an everything has to match type, I just use these ideas as a guide. In cases where I am going to be in pictures for very special occasions, I would never hold a handbag that looked like Winnie the Pooh and I am in an evening gown.
~No offense to Winnie the Pooh. ~
