What makeup company do you work for?

So I just wanted to get some input on some good makeup companies to work for. I was thinking of applying at Chanel or Dior. Can anyone help me by telling me how I should go about applying, should I just ask for an app or hand my resume in at the counter. has anyone worked for either of these brands? if so did/do you like it? i'm working as a makeup artist for a salon right now but I want to start working with a makeup company to get some cosmetic retail experience under my belt. I really would prefer not to work for a makeup company that is really "pushy" on its customers or expect their makeup artists to be sales robots. any input would be greatly appreciated. i need a new job that I will enjoy!! thanks ladies!

I work for Clinique and granted were not a 'makeup oriented' line were more about skincare. But what I do like about Clinique is that we teach our clients how to apply makeup. I mean its basic looks but some people that I work with that come back in always have awesome makeup now that we spent time with them and showed them how to do it. It's rewarding! We're not pushy we just do consultations and tell it like it is.

I think it depends on which store you work in as welll.. some department stores are pushier than others.
If possible I would say go for MAC. you are experienced, give it a try.

Macys will depend on experience when based on pay. But I will give you a heads up, after the New Year Macy's will be closing some more stores down and if they do hire anyone their going to be super cheap about it. The way things are going down at my store they may try and cut into the people who make the most and go from there..

I work for MAC. I get paid extremely well, its an amazing job; but its probably the hardest job I know of to get. I work inside a Dillards, but do not work for Dillards, which is nice

Well, I am a counter manager for Benefit Cosmetics in a Macy's right now. Surprisingly enough I have come to find out I am the highest paid counter manager there, which is think is a combo of being at a slower line (not as much commission, and my experience). So I can only imagine how cheap the other girls are working for. I was very happy at Macy's except for a few things, ie. credit apps (but I just had my friends and family come in), the hours, the fact that they never promote, always hiring managers from outside, and the fact that Macy's does not seem like such a stable company all of a sudden. I know everyone is hurting now but I have been hearing things about Macy's for a while and then at the store it's always like, we are so ahead of plan, blah blah so I never know which is true.

As far as Benefit it is a great and fun company, but very very slow as a counter, and I hate traffic stopping. So, I would def work for them on a corp. level but not in a dept store.

Now, I have put my 2 weeks in at Macys and will now be the counter manager for Laura Mercier in Nordstroms. We will see how different they are but I can tell already I will like it better. The pay is like night and day, much busier store, and while they have credit cards, it isnt as demanding.

Hopefully everything will work out for both of us. Good luck whatever you decide!

Yeah I wanna go to Nordies, I should have applied for that part time MAC position when the counter manager offered it to me but that store isn't in the greatest part of town.

I would love to work for mac I interviewed with them 2 weeks ago and made it through to the demo interview, i did very well on my demo. my model thought for sure i got the job but unfortunatly there was only one position available and they chose to move forward with another candidate, a ton of girls where being interviewed! i was so very dissappointed i thought for sure i would be able to leave the miserable job i'm at now at the salon and work for mac which is a dream of mine but oh well can't win them all.

i plan on reappliying in the future when another position opens. in the mean time i really want and need to find a new job. i love doing makeup, i'm very talented and i have the ability to sell product very well. i just want to find a compny i can fit in with. i don't want to work another job where i get paid extremely low and where i dread going into work. chanel seems like a company i can fit into. all this talk about macys is making me second guess working there. i would love to just work out of a store rather than a counter at a department store. do you guys think i should just hand in resumes? job hunting and finding places that are hiring is so difficult. i really just don't know what to do at this point. tomorrow I'm thinking of just going into macys and nordstroms and checking out each counter to see where i fit in, i think i'm gunna dress nice and do my makeup fierce and just bring in a stack of resumes and just start handing them out?
