This is going to sound ridiculous, but I've never worn black e/s in my life. I'm not sure I'd know what to do with it. I don't do the smokey eye look and I'm not sure how it would look in a crease. Is it ridiculous that I'm being drawn by a cute name? LOL

Maybe a matte black would be better than this. Any ideas?

Mmmm...do you ever use a black eyeliner pencil? you can line your lid and smudge it with a pencil or smudge brush. Start off by doing that and build from that. You can move onto a dark gray eyeshadow that is borderline black or go straight for a black. If you really want Tall Dark and Handsome I'd say wait for the swatches and reviews and if you are still attracted to it then go for it and pull our your brushes! Also, smokey eyes don't necessarily have to be done using black eyeshadow only. You can do it with any color. Greens, blues, purples, and browns all make really nice smokey eyes. Remember, your face is a canvas and feel free to experiment when you have the time!

Agree with all those ideas. Also, you can layer black over another color to make it look smokier and darker. You can also use it over a lipstick to change the color. Even mix it with clear gloss to make a black gloss. The possibilities are multiple...I use black a lot in the crease (butt or V) of the eye

I NEVER back up eye shadows, but I did BU Dark Dare EDES, because I figured there was no way to do a better black. Tall Dark and Handsome is still calling out to me, but I'm guessing it'll be very shimmery. I wish some of the new EDES have a "Glow" finish like Dark Dare - almost matte if you want, or you can wet it down and bring out more sheen.
I have Dark Dare coming to me in the mail. I hope I like it!

Thanks! Actually, I never wear black liner. It looks too harsh on me. I wear brown/black mascara and colours like Dipdown, Local Wares, Dark Diversion and the like as liner.

I know I wouldn't like heavy black eyeshadow, I'd be more likely to play with it and see how it might change other colours. It's one I'd definitely swatch first though; I'm not sure enough that I'd like it.

I'm with you on this one. I got Dark Dare EDES because it was the easiest way I've ever found to do smokey looks. I'm STILL going to haul Tall Dark and Handsome because the idea of pearl means its different enough for me to get it.

I think a sparkly or shimmery black will be a little easier to deal with than something super matte and dense, because it will look better if you blend it out to a very sheer finish, so you can start by trying it sheerly then adding more for a deeper, darker look as you get more used to using it and how it looks. Matte black is much trickier to blend out and not look smudged (and imo, usually looks best really dense and smokey anyhow). It's more of a dressy, evening color usually anyhow, unless you are into a punk, strong eye just in general.

A cut crease in black can look very 60's groovy, but that's a pretty extreme look too.

Blacklit has been my black sparkly love, with that amazing green iridescence. I'm assuming TD&H will be more of a non-colored shimmer. I'll probably get sucked in, even though I feel like Dark Dare and Blacklit are all my eyes need, considering how much I love black shadow looks.

does anyone know what the 4th fluidline color is yet?

Im also interested in Tall Dark Handsome. I never really used black eyeshadow either. The only one I own is Carbon and it is untouched lol im just scared. I did want Dark Dare but it was sold out when i decided i wanted to get it. Im secretly hoping that Tall Dark Handsome is ismilar to Chanel Illusion D'ombre in mirifique so that i wont have to shell out the money for the chanel one. I want to start using black shadows

If you think black gel liner looks too harsh, you might actually like using a black shadow with a pencil brush like a 211 or 219 to define around the eyes instead of liner. That's a nice soft look with some mascara. I think one of the things with black on the eyes, you just have to rebalance your cheek and lip makeup. Keeping them kind of under-done, while playing up the eyes is a nice look and not harsh.

If you're very blonde, using a little bronzer to go with your black eye look is a good way to prevent looking to ghostly. Otherwise, make sure to go a little warmer with your blush and lip colors, like instead of pale pink, use pale apricot.
No, I'm not blonde. My natural colour once upon a time was a chestnut brown. It's a red-brown now. I have strong warm undertones and am nowhere near neutral - if you remember 'seasons' I'm an autumn. I look a lot better with brown instead of black liner, but I could probably play with a black shadow in a sheer way in combination with other colours. Maybe I'll pay at Sephora at some point in the next couple of weeks. It was just a thought really; it's one shadow colour I've never even attempted.

If you're on the warm side, I could see how the typical really strong black liners could be a little meh on you - since they're usually cool black instead of warm or neutral. I'm neutral to warm leaning and some blacks, especially the ones that are a little closer to charcoal grey, look really blah on me, especially when blended out. I'm not a big fan of Blacktrack, but Wholesome f/l is gorgeous. Carbon shadow is really yuck on me too, if I try to smudge it or use it by itself without pencil underneath. I've got black hair and dark eyebrows, and I like a punked out look, though, so I do really like all sorts of black overall.

I never got Dark Dare, but if Tall Dark Handsome is shimmery, I will definitely pick it up. :) In fact I'm pretty sure I'll be buying all the eyeshadows.
