MAC Après Chic Collection Discussion (December 2012)

I ordered Apres Chic, Hot Chocolate, and Stereo Rose from this collection.  I like the one lip swatch that I've seen of Apres Chic...but now I'm wondering if it's going to be similar to my Cyndi lipstick? Or maybe even Hibiscus? What do ya'll think?   Also, Hot Chocolate (at least from the instagram lip swatch) looks like a greyed brown? Do you think it will be too grey for my really yell--toned dark skin (I'm kinda a NC50 in MAC...but with way more yellow in my skin).
Well, I don't Cyndi but from in the tube and the swatches we've seen, I definitely don't think it looks anything like Hibiscus. If anything at all, I would say it looks rather similar to Fire Sign from Heavenly Creatures without the small pearlized pigments :) 2nd on the Hot Chocolate business, I feel you as I am also dark-skinned with very yellow undertones... I'm hoping it comes up more rosy-toned, I guess. Not sure how the grey will play out with our complexions.

I don't have Fire Sign, but I just did a quick search in google images and came across a German (I think) blog that compares Cyndi to Fire Sign- and they look like dupes, haha. But, I guess it will be good to have a back up/something really similar to Cyndi.

I can't wait to see more Hot Chocolate swatches. If none pop up before I receive my package, I'll be sure to post swatches. This lipstick looks really unique...but I"m just hoping it's not grey like Fresh Brew...

I've been busy posting in the Strength thread.

Lipstick

  • Hot Chocolate
  • Apres Chic
  • Haute Altitude
  • Cozy Up

Mineralize Skinfinish

  • Stereo Rose x2
  • Porcelain Pink

Brushes

  • 287 Brush

No lipstick BUs or MES because of low funds. But I know I can go back and get BUs later from a counter if I really love something. I also want to see the MES in person first. I have a hunch I may BU Hot Chocolate. I just love the name being a chocoholic fiend. My makeup obsession pales in comparison to my chocolate one.

haha!! I'll play!!!

MES: Silver Birch, Winter Pursuit

Lipsticks: Apres Chic for sure, Cozy Up too, if you only wished Salute was a little darker and less pastel, maybe Hot Chocolate, Warm Companion if you like light lip colors.

Balm: Nice & Simple, Slightly Nude

MB: The verdict's out, Alpine Bronze may not show up too distinctly, but it's a great texture that ought to smooth out the skin tone.

PLL: Night Trail - it'll look more purplish on you! The teal one will look great with Winter Pursuit.

I'm not a fan of the MSFs in this collection, but if you just have to have it, Stereo Rose.

Love it! Thank you. I feel like I have a personal shopper. I am going to pass on the MES just b/c my eyes and contacts don't agree with them. I can't wait to check this out!!

I don't want to purchase from this collection online, so I'm aiming to go to Macy's or Nordstrom's on Wednesday. I'm tentatively interested in:

Fireside MES
Silver Birch MES
Frost at Midnight MES
Amber Glow MB
Stereo Rose MSF

For anyone who has actually seen these in person--

What do you think would be good choices for me? I am supposedly NW5; very pale, and very very cool toned with naturally rosy cheeks (how dark a pink they are depends on the weather, mostly). I have green/hazel eyes and dark blonde hair. I only want to get 2-3 things, tops. I have a lot of MES that were released starting with Semi-Precious and don't want any near dupes.

I like the swatches of AG MB and SR MSF a lot, but I'm afraid they're too warm for me. I have swatched PP MSF numerous times at counters and CCOs, and it completely disappears into my skin no matter how I apply it, so that's a no-go.

I'm nowhere near as pale as you are (I'm between NW15-20), but I skipped almost everything in this collection as I feel it is more geared towards (medium) NC complexions.

AG works well on lighter NC skins, especially if you have yellow undertones - it neutralizes and brightens sallow NC complexions. On my pale NW skin, it just looked off. And SR was super orange. It will work better during the summer with a tan and/or bronzer.

If you can, swatch this collection in person. HTH

Thanks, Mac-Guy! That's what I was afraid of.

They look so pretty, and I love MAC's mineralized collections in general, but doubtful these will look pretty on me. I will swatch in person though to tell for sure. I don't even get remotely tanned in the summer; I burn if I try to get a tan, and I've never been interested in bronzer.

I will most likely stick to 2 of the MES and call it a day. The balms look lovely too, but I am trying to quit it with the lip products other than from Strength and Archie's next year. I have too many still unopened or barely used as it is.

No need to buy into the hype if it doesn't suit out complexion. There will be better products for us in the near future, for sure :)

This is very true. I have learned that lesson the hard way with a couple of lipsticks and a blush or ES or two over the last year and a half! Sometimes my collector nature took over for my common sense. Don't wish to repeat that again!

I'm hoping the summer collection will have more cool-toned things. I didn't get much from Naturally last year either, come to think of it.

Everything is still available on the Canadian site. I just need a shipping code since I only want Taupe Shape and I am not paying $8 to ship it. I pre-ordered Apres Chic and need to see Stylish Brown in person.

ANYONE WITH A FREE SHIP CODE TO CANADA PLEASE LET US KNOW!

Hm...I'm torn on SR. I'm definitely warm enough to pull it off and orange doesn't scare me in the least. It's your 'metal' comment that gives me pause. I don't like metallic finishes; if that's what this has, I need to pull if from my cart before I finalize.

Alpine Bronze would probably be fine on me (strong yellow undertones), but I think I have enough blush to last me for life.

Can you try it in person?

I think SR looks nice on NC25, but it's definitely more in-your-face due to the finish. It will be beautiful on a Caribbean vacation (mind you, the vacation doesn't come with your SR order :)
