I was at my local mac about a month ago and one of the SAs that was helping me mentioned that she thought my foundation should be a little darker. She said something like that my neck and chest area were more tanned so my face should match that more. Not sure if she is right about that or not. I do want to get rematched because my skin has changed a lot since 18 which was probably when I first got matched. Lol bummer though, I still have a lot of product in my NC40 studio sculpt foundation.
A lot of people will reccomend that and it's really up to you but me personally, I wear my foundation color and then use bronzer to add the color to my face and neck.
This is ideally how one should be matched-match the face (after all, you are wearing it on your face), and then bronze either your face or neck, whichever is lighter.
I have the same problem but with the studio fix fluid, the girl said the same thing to me (that it had to match my neck) she game me nc 44 but I feel like it might be a tiny bit darker than my face..I did a quick search on google and a lot of the women wearing it are WOC which means their skin seems much darker than mine...she did match me at a free standing counter at a mall and the lighting wasnt the best but I dont want to spend another 30 dollars for another foundation after I've only used this one twice :/
Take it back!
Those SAs just confuse me more. Haha When I was first matched, I was matched NC40 for studio fix foundation powder compact. I wear liquid foundation mostly on weekends. I bought it in NC40 recently. I just assumed I'd be NC40 in everything but that's probably not true.
Nope. Each formula and type (liquid, powder, cream) is gonna run different. SFF runs darker than SF. SFF NCs run more yellow than SS NCs. Mineralize loose runs darker than MSFN. That's why is best to be matched with each formula you use.

Makes sense now! :) I think I'll go get rematched in my liquid foundation. I might still have the receipt in case I am a different color.
