I for once have stablished for myself a 2 item Max per collection. And only one big ticket item for month. But as I rotate through my stuff I skip more collections and just fill gaps on things I truly need instead of 3 lippys of the same shade in dif finishes I get a blush on a color I didn't have and suited my complexion better. It's not really full of rules or nothing but just supporting each other on picking better and not spending so much...
Well said. I used to put a fixed amount of money per month on makeup. That was when I was building up my collection and I didn't have alot of anything. Now, I'm pretty much set in all the basics and since Jan this year I have cut down 1/3 of my original fixed budget and I have been doing great. It's liberating when you don't feel like you have to get everything. I only get what I don't have that I know I will use a lot of or something very unique to my personal collection.

I won't feel bad if I miss anything from Playland Collection since every lipstick except Playland yellow lipstick is a dupe of something I have. CC's are interesting but I will go over my self-imposed budget if I get them so I chose not to get them.

ohhhhhhh, okay, well that makes lots of sense. I agree completely. I definitely do NOT have enough money to buy all the makeup I do. Or clothes for that matter. I'm trying really hard to either save extra money or give it to worthy causes (from the homeless to my little cousin's college). And I think you're right. If I were a makeup artist, it would make sense to have all of this, but I don't need things I will probably never use or that are ALMOST but not quite the same as each other. Without knowing it I've been on team low buy for a while, for the past year my rule was one item per collection, and only if it was LE, not permanent, otherwise i had to wait until Christmas or birthday. I'm kind of out of control right now because I have the money from two birthdays and one christmas I still haven't spent, but maybe, just maybe, I should hoard a little dinero and see what the next collection has to offer :) Thank you guys for being the voice of reason :) I can't promise I won't succumb once in a while and join teambuyallthethings in my temporary insanity, but maybe I could learn to trade some of my extras or things I don't use, or at least give them away! Thanks for explaining! I actually just wasn't sure if MAC put a cap on LEs or what.

Toying around does kinda look like impassioned. Maybe I'll skip it and get sweet experience instead. I don't have anything quite like that in my stash.

I promise after this I'll only talk about makeup!!! lol I wanted to keep them SO bad I was seriously like all numb with drool coming out of my mouth like, "don't thwow them away!!!!"

LOL!!!! Love it! But that's my job and see this everyday(and worse), so this doesn't freak me out in the least.

I still have no clue what I want(if anything) from this collection.

My money will be saved for the Alluring Aquatic collection for sure.

The low-buy definitely makes it more interesting! LOL Trying to limit my hauls is good for me though. Makes me MUCH more picky about what I buy because I can't just "buy all the things!" It really forces me to look at swatches and consider dupes in my collection. So it adds to the indecisiveness overall, but in the end, I seem to get more enjoyment out of what I've actually purchased because I'm not as overwhelmed. And if I miss out on something good, I don't freak out as much now... knowing another dupe is most likely right around the corner.

I think TA l/s is my only confirmed item... the other 2 spots are still on hold for my final selections!
Letting go is a very freeing sensation! Right now, there's a lot of that going on in my life (not so much with makeup, but for sure with more important things like health, friends and men) and wanting to feel free is a huge motivation to make the tough choices and take the other consequences as they come. It's a clean slate feeling, that gives you room to make new plans and find new things to love. The makeup stuff is just a mini version. Playland is pretty small in the scheme of things!

On the other hand, if I had to pick 3 things out of the collection for you particularly, I'd say TA, Sweet Experience and either the yellow gloss if you want to really bump your lippies into a bright coral zone, or the orange gloss if you want that but want to go a touch more subdued. Or if you don't want crazy levels of glossiness, skip the glosses and get Playland to do the same things they would in a more subdued way, but just be prepared to fiddle around a bit.

I've managed to stay away from Mac since Jan, and now I'm back for these lipsticks since I tend to want to own every lipstick Mac releases @_@. This time I feel sort of lost in regards to which shades to pick..... they are all different shades of pink but all I see is PINK! lol... What are you guys top picks from this collection?

So, it has been confirmed that we don't have to stalk tonight, because this really was pushed back? Haha there's been so much back and forth on the topic that my head went around in circles :)

Some makeup people ran a test to figure out how many uses in typical blushes and lipsticks.

A typical blush use was 0.014g per application. A blush that weighs 0.15oz/4g has approximately 286 applications. On the average if someone uses the same blush every day, and applies it twice a day, ONE blush will last 143 days. So they'll only go through 2-1/2 blushes in a year. If i currently have 15 blushes, it will take me 6 years to use them all.

Similarly, an typical swipe of lipstick was 50mm. So the average number of swipes in a tube of lipstick was 293. If someone applied lipstick three times per day every day, a tube would last a little more than three months. That's 4 lipsticks a year. If i currently have 30 lipsticks, it will take me 7-1/2 years to use up what i already have.

I'm not trying to discourage anyone. I'm on Team Low Buy, but i'm still getting stuff i really want. But it can be helpful to think twice about how long it takes to go through what we have and only get stuff we really love.
I don't mean to be a horrible devil's advocate, but I don't always buy makeup with the intention I'm going to finish it all up. Sometimes I just like a particular, striking look or color and want it for high impact days or evenings out. Backing those sorts of things up is folly, but getting one, knowing you will be the most fabulous belle at the ball on the special days you wear it, makes the purchase worth it, even if it never gets finished. One thing about this mentality for me, though, is I won't buy the really high end makeup, where a lipstick is $40. You can't drag me there. Now that even MAC is starting to really creep up there, it's less of a little bauble to buy for a few fun days as it used to be. The main thing for me is just making sure I wear everything I buy. If I had something just sitting there for 6 months, unopened, I would kick myself five times and go sit in the time out corner.

I think this is the mentality that is fully behind anything I would buy from this particular collection, that's for sure! There will be some days where nothing but a crazy mouth covered in TA + Playland + Brightside will do this summer, and I embrace it - it'll be fun and worth the cost, but yeah….it'll take a zillion years to get through even one tube of Playland or Brightside!

Hehe thanks :D Go Teamlowbuy!!!!!!! And Liba I know what you mean!!!!!! I like doing theatrical make-up, and I do make-up for a lot of friends and family so I kind of like to have something in every color family. But I think I can find a happy medium somewhere between wanting one of everything and just identifying what would diversify my collection. Like, yes, I need a Barbie pink blush, a coral blush, a plum blush, a red blush, etc. But do I need Frankly Scarlet AND Apple Red AND that Josie Maran red glee AND Illamasqua Brazen etc.??? No. No I do not. If someone wants Marie Antoinette cheeks, just ONE of them will take care of it :)

Thanking the makeup gods......i'm working tomorrow. In my mind, my plan was to sneak to the bathroom to place my order as soon as it was available. The things we do for mac makeup

Am I the only one? It seems the more the date gets pushed back the less items I want from my list
No, between that and the so-so reviews I've been seeing, I've cut my list down quite a bit. I'm also not all that into the AA collection. I have a feeling my wallet is going to feel the Osbourne collection though.

I think, at this point, I'm just going to end up with TA lipstick, and the yellow and orange glosses (to change up the colors of lippies I already have)... that's down quite a bit from what I *was* going to get.

I wouldn't call this collection a let down overall, but there are a few things that aren't that great. Not keen on the CCs - I got to see the other two. They're better for the cheeks this time, but not as good on the lips. Hi Jinx is the best of them, but if you have Joie de Vivre Cremeblend blush, you don't need it if you're mainly going to use it on the cheeks, and if you have Sushi Kiss, that's very similar but works better on the lips. HitC was disappointing to me - I was hoping it'd be a richer color. RB is a little subdued. The glosses are better on top of lipsticks than on their own, big time. Playland is only for those who will handle it's misbehavior. The rest of the lipsticks are very cute, but you have to like that creamy, glossy amplified finish, which is pretty darn loud. I really like the gloss + lippie combos you can come up with - that's the nicest aspect of the whole collection, but that isn't for low buy conditions, that's for sure. I'm getting a bit more than I originally planned, but I don't have any glosses like the shades in this collection. I'll probably not use them to death, but there will be times where I'll get a Playland collection lip going and will feel House of Labeija fierce, and that's good enough for me.

Sounds like those two will be good picks for you! Red Balloon will look brighter on deeper skin tones, so it might not be exactly demure, depending on your coloring. It's 50% demure!

LOL, you should have seen how many hours I labored over the Patentpolishes. That's part of the enjoyment of shopping for me, though…leisurely trying everything out and then finally making the decision and taking it home. I like to put a little thought into my purchases - I think of it as analysis, not indecision!

I do feel so much "lighter" cutting back my purchases. And I get a lot more enjoyment out of what I DO haul now than before when I got a TON of stuff from every collection! Being more selective makes putting my small list together much more "fun!" If that makes sense.

As for this collection, I'm thinking TA for sure (I never got TT), and the other 2 maybes are Lit It Up l/g (although I should be on a lipgloss NO buy!), and possibly High Jinks CC. But either one of those 2 could be replaced by the new yellow pigment... I'm still figuring it out. But I definitely don't want/need finicky Playland or mixing glosses. I have enough OCC Lip Tars for my mixing and color creation needs. So Playland is a def skip.
As always... I FULLY appreciate your advice and guidance! Never steered me wrong yet missy!

I'm team pink and kinda love light pink lipsticks so sweet experience is my only for sure ! The others I probably have dupes for only because most shades of one color look the same on my skintone (candy yum yum didint look neon on me.. Ablaze and toxic tale looked the Same on me) Will have to see those in stores !
