Me too. I have way too many lippies to buy dupes. Unless it's purple or Fuschia. On second thought... I've decided to skip Kinky... since I have Ruby Woo (x2) and RiRi Woo (x8). :haha:
LOL !Okay. Dumb. Question. How can a red be neutral, yet vivid? MAC's swatch makers and their color describers must be smoking some good MMJimp:
Thank you Naomi
sooooooo pretty thanks for the swatches I can't wait to get mines and u are so right it does look different and so beautiful from other redsI've been MIA for quite some time and my swatches are a little late. I have MAC Kinky from the Kinky Boots Collection & Strange Journey from The RHPS Collection. They maybe a little pointless now due to MACina's swatches but hopefully they will offer some different comparisons. I did not compare all of my red and orange lipsticks as there are just too many and some are not comparable to the two. I swatched Kinky & SJ together so you could see their differences and then the most similar lipsticks I own next to them. (Pictures Below)Kinky ReviewMAC describes Kinky as a “Vivid neutral red (Matte)”. It is a vivid red with a pink undertone. Kinky glided on my lips with no pressure; it is so pigmented, smooth & opaque and it didn't tug on my lips. It lasted well for 8 hours and when it did start to fade it did so evenly and left a nice stain to the lip which was easily removable and my lips were not left dry after wear. I found the formula to be more of the MAC classic matte’s it was not transferable (even when drinking there was no mark left). The colour is beautiful and bright, when I wore Kinky it looked more of a vivid red with a bright blue undertone on the lip. Although my arm swatches make Kinky look like a bright pink, red in real life and on the lips it looks so much more like a blue red. This maybe due to my pigmentation or skintone but it certainly didn't look pink. Again like Strange Journey this lipstick is very eye-catching and when I visited the MAC store wearing it another customer asked a sales assistant for the lipstick I was wearing as she wanted "a bright red matte" and found none of the permanent line to be "bright enough" including Ruby Woo, Russian Red, All Fired Up etc. I told the lady who asked that the lipstick wasn't currently available but to keep her eyes peeled! First time in my life anybody in a MAC store has asked what I was wearing.Kinky ComparisonJust A Bite – Is far more blackcurrant compared to Kinky.Relentlessly Red – Is much pinker than Kinky.Viva Glam I – Has more brown undertones rather than pink.Absolute Power – Is much pinker than Kinky and it has less red.Russian Red – I found that it is similar in its red tones however it has far less pink than Kinky.Ruby Woo – It has more yellow undertones than Kinky.Charmed, I’m Sure – Is very similar but not as deep red and not as vibrant or bright as Kinky.MAC Red – Is again very similar in colour however it has a bluer base compared to Kinky. MAC Red’s satin finish is shinier and glossier than Kinky’s matte formula.None of the above could be classed as exact dupes but the most similar to Kinky is Charmed, I'm Sure from Marilyn Monroe collection 2012 which sadly is another LE. If you have MAC Red or Charmed, I'm Sure and don't want tons of red lipstick (who wouldn't? :kissy: ) you might want to skip on Kinky. I have other “red” lipsticks in my collection such as Ronnie Red, All Fired Up, Red Balloon, Love Goddess etc which I can compare if people want to see them compared but I didn't include them as in the tube they looked too different to Kinky. To some Kinky may look like "just another pink red" but it's brightness & vividness makes Kinky an exciting addition to my collection. I love the fact somebody knew it was different to all of MAC's mainline red lipsticks just by looking at my lips due to how bright it is. It is such a fun colour and even if you just buy it for it's name if you love red lipsticks you certainly won't be disappointed. MAC hit the nail on the head with it's formula, it's flawless in my eyes and I can't wait to wear it again. Swatches below, I'm NW13 MAC Kinky (outdoors, in shade)Arm Swatches (Outdoors, in Shade)
