No, I don't know what that is. What is AA? Do you mean Alluring Aquatic. I wasn't into MAC at that point.
That's the collection. There was a youtube review that was posted up on the thread, this woman (darker than me, NC50 - not sure) bought the collection except for Goddess of the Sea and Modern Lure (can't remember if they were the only items she missed or what) it was a 20min review and she was just slating the whole collection saying that how it won't work on her skin, I returning everything etc. that was another painful review. She just blind purchased everything, don't know if it she purchased it online or in store. It was ridiculous

I couldn't even finish watching the video...they should ban that chick from all makeup stores.
Maybe she will learn from this. I wanted to comment under her video and give her tips but I didn't even know where to start. At least she has learned she is also not a lustre girl.

No, I didn't see that video. I did see some from other youtubers with dark skin and they raved about it. I actually went and overpaid for Goddess of the Sea, Mystical, Clearwater, Modern Lure, and Seducing Sound. And I think it was all money well spent. All of those lip products are some of my favorites I've ever purchased. I can whole heartedly say that Seducing Sound is my favorite lip gloss I've ever purchased ever and I'll be so sad when it is out of stock. Do you know that lipgloss is still around on like Dillards? Clearwater is also gorgeous.

I only wanted ML and GOTS, but I'll have a look on the Dillards site

Yeah in America it's all about customer satisfaction. Not everything you order online you can try on first so if it doesn't work for your complexion, they basically encourage you to return it. And I'm sure they just throw it out. This released first online. I didn't watch the video and I personally don't return cosmetics once used. Though I would with drugstore foundation because you can't try. I rarely buy them for that reason. And tbh, in Canada I wouldn't have thought about returning it, but here it's done so frequently and people talk about doing it liberally. Stores take shoes back after being worn, I've never done it! But a coworker does it all the time. It's just how they do here, lol. But I return every damned thing else, lmao. Unworn/unused. I'm the queen of return and exchange.
The way I was raised it was embarrassing to return something without good reason because it made you look cheap. Especially if you were a frequent shopper. Both of my parents worked retail and always told me if you don't intend to buy it don't even touch it. Clerks still try to shame you with looks. I have personally gotten over that because I know my intentions but does anyone else feel the same way sometimes?

It's still available on the US MAC website too. Now I have to go find that video. Hopefully I have a good laugh instead of a good cry at how someone else could have received the items and loved them.

Yep, if I know it won't work, I don't buy it

We can return makeup if it is faulty, or if it brings us out in a rash or something, but we can't return it just because we don't like the colour. Shops have testers for that purpose.

With brands like MAC, Illamasqua or ArtDeco, there is no counter near me, so I have to buy online, but I make sure to look at swatches (on real people, not computer generated images on their sites which are invariably way out) before I consider buying, bearing in mind that colours look different on different skin tones. Even then, something that looks bright pink on someone else can look orange on me for some reason. If I then don't like the colour on me when it arrives, it's not their fault.

Illamasqua are rather good - they show little videos of the products being applied on different skin tones on their website, along with actual photographic swatches, which is very helpful.
I was so sad when Illamasqua pulled out of the US. Their foundation was up there with Becca's in my opinion. :( I really appreciated that they took the time to photograph the colors on different skin tones too. And I really want to try that new gel sculpt!

I've never tried their foundation (I rarely wear foundation of any kind, and wouldn't know which shade to get anyway) but I do have and love some of their lipsticks, a couple of pigments, a few eyeshadows, 3 palettes, a blush, 'Hollow' cream pigment a few nail varnishes and a couple of perfumes. I do see people rave about the foundation and the Hydra Veil, though.

OK, so I've just watched that video.  Didn't I just say the other day that I was waiting for a Youtuber to break a lipstick because they wound it out too far?  Now I've finally seen it, and I can't believe she blamed MAC!  She also blamed them for the colours not being 'made for her'.  Sorry, but it makes me angry to see someone buy half the collection, try them all out then return them.  She needs to find out what type of colours would suit her first, before buying.  Those lipsticks are now wasted, and could otherwise have gone to a good home.  No wonder prices keep rising. The 'just return it if you don't like the colour' culture is so wrong to me, when it comes to cosmetics.  We can't do that here if the product has been opened, because of hygiene issues, even if you say it hasn't been used.  In fact some shops won't let you return makeup even if it's still sealed (Boots, I'm looking at you).
That blogger wasted her money and time on reviewing 10+ lipsticks, saying that she don't like them and breaking them in the process. I really do not understand people these days. If I bought 10+ lipsticks and didnt like a single one, I'll contact a few friends and they can argue amongst themselves which ones they want. This is why I rather go on a forum, look at swatches and say yes or no. At least then, I'm not wasting my hard earned cash on something that won't work on me. As for Boots, the amount of times I went in there in a rush to pick up something, only to find the item I've picked up and paid for has its seal broken or used or something and they won't let me exchange it...
Yep I won't give her too much but she can't complain that she isn't pressing hard and then her lipstick breaks because it is twisted up too far and she's pressing it downwards at an angle smh. I had a good laugh though. The fact that she bought all those lipsticks before trying them on is sad. I don't remember if she said she even liked one :( It's crazy how hygiene and safety standards are different across the world. In America you can sell an eyeshadow with colors not safe for eyes as long as you put a stick on it saying so (Urban Decay) but you can return basically anything. Then items banned in Europe can get sold here no problem.  :werd:  God bless privileged, entitled America lol. I just remembered someone said a long time ago you can't return a lot of items in Europe. Can you imagine an American on vacation buying some makeup they didn't like at KIKO or someplace and going to return it? It would be a nightmare :( What do you mean I can't return this item? But I don't like it! :boxing: I think there might be a fight smh. Either way I love our return policy as long as it works out in my favor :)

If she bought it from Mac US online they keep track of that sort of stuff and she won't be able to do it repeatedly for long. That's for sure. I tend to know what will work for me and sometimes I have been surprised. The RHPS is a great example and the Matte Lip Collection is another. I did not like those colors so I gave them away for free.

Exactly. if I buy a lipstick and I can't get it to work, I'll ring up a friend first. And if any of my friends can't work a lipstick, I sell it on (without extorting anyone) And that happens on a blue moon. I've skipped on several lipsticks, because I don't know what to do with it or what liner will work etc. I hope they stop get from returning any future items, it's not fair on the genuine consumers who have to pay the inflated prices when they go up, all because she doesn't like the colour or the finish I'm having an issue with Silly, I've seen [@]montREALady[/@] swatch it and I like it, but will I get it to work? can I be creative with it? will I turn it down to the pink I want it to be. I've been asking those questions for nearly every collection this year, except for the MM palette cos I know I can have fun and match it with another lipstick

Exactly. The only time I ever returned items was when Nordstrom sent me the same package twice and charged me for it twice and hell, I wouldn't have even returned that if I didn't need the money at the time. I have a few lipsticks that look horrible on me, but I still keep trying to work with them...Reel Sexy for example.

In Canada, it was lax return policies on clothes and many items that contributed to the financial collapse of Eaton's, Simpson's, etc. The Bay sometimes still surprises me with what you can take back (or what I have heard people have taken back). I rarely return things unless I get home and they seem totally different then what I thought of the item in the store. When I was a kid, my mom would buy a lot of clothes to have us try on at home and keep the ones we liked and return the rest. Of course, tags were still on and we hadn't washed or worn the items around more than the couple minutes it took to try them on. She just didn't like dragging our whiny butts to the mall. LOL.
The only thing I have returned make-up wise is a facial cleanser to Sephora that wasn't working and I couldn't get over the smell of it on my skin. I gave it a two-week chance and it had to leave.

I got quite a few lipsticks that don't look good on me, but I don't return them. I keep them and still find a way of making them work, I might take me a days or a few months for me to work with them, but I know I will get them to work one day

Silly didn't work on me when I got it in the Fashion Sets 2013 Collection but I didn't return it (too much of a hassle for me) but I pair it with Whirl. I use Whirl for all my loud/bright/now-unwearable/regret-buy pinks (hello CYY, Pink Pigeon, Silly and Beauty). Whirl makes them wearable pinks.

I barely returned when I lived in Canada, it's so weird. Not that people don't, but it wasn't a big practice. Then I also didn't have kids until I moved here. What I return and exchange the most are for them because I don't bring them with me when I shop for them and I shop a lot online for them too. For myself it has to be a size issue. Everything is unworn, I still can't return a used item. A sa can't shame me because it's not their money, plus I could care less what they think. I don't even notice if they do! Half of them have attitude in general it's ridiculous. Things like makeup tbh, it's only the MAC le's that I buy blindly and it's mainly lipsticks so you can mix if it doesn't work. So far they've all worked thankfully, well not KO Riot House but I mix it. Otherwise I like to try first. Drugstore stuff is usually cheap enough where I just take the loss if it doesn't work. NYX too, I ordered two of their eyebrow gels before I found my right shade, but I didn't return the other two. Same with Avon and I sell it. Not worth the hassle of returning. Ordering a whole MAC collection blindly makes no sense to me. She must not be on Specktra, lol! Or go on IG...or Pinterest...or Google. Hmph, I don't even want to watch the video.

Yeah Silly is tricky. It's a color that can look clownish on certain ppl and complexions IMO. Especially without the right liner or without toning down. Which I sometimes feel defeats the purpose if you have to work so hard with a product.
