Asia Vacation Challenge - Golden Week

Hey guys, I'm looking for an Asian country to visit over golden week (first week of May). I live in Japan (so thats out) and I'm going to HK in April (so thats out).

So here's the challenge:

Sell me on an Asian holiday destination.

The conditions:

-must be relatively safe

-must not be too expensive (middle range is good)

-must be ideal for about 5-7 days vacation

-must have interesting places to visit

-must have good shopping

Where should I go and why?

Thailand - easy to travel, nice beaches & temples, good shopping in Bangkok

I second Thailand. It is pretty affordable and the reasons stated above too.

Thailand and India are gorgeous places to visit, so much to see and do.

Thailand - Phuket
India - Goa

Both give you interesting sites, amazing cuisine and beautiful beaches.

I'm thinking about Singapore, and Indonesia too. Has anyone been there?

Singapore is a lovely place, if u love good food (spicy), shopping & nightlife =)

Relatively safe & clean country. Easier to navigate as in eng signs are everywhere. Majority of the people speaks eng (below 60 yrs old)

Wide range of accommodation and food price ranges from really low to high, depends on what u wanna eat =D

For really cheap food, u can try the hawker centres/food courts.
Food range from S$2-$10 for a meal.

For fine cuisine, avg S$20-$80 per head.

Pls do msg me if u're coming over to Singapore, I can rec u place/attractions according to ur preferences and ppl in the grp =)

If u have a whole week, u might wanna consider going over to Msia via the Straits.
U can spend like 4 days in SG, 2 days in Msia =)
Visit 2 countries at one go!

Indonesia isn't an interesting place to go.
It's relatively unsafe unless u visit resorts, places like Bali.

I second Thailand.
Fantastic food, if u're aren't concern abt food hygience. I ADORE Thai food =)
Cheap merchandise, provided that u can bargain. PLS DO BARGAIN, cos it's not a shameless thing to do in Thailand.
Do go to their wholesale market name (Sampeng), Chatucak mkt, if u wanna shop.

If u love water sports, phuket is fun =) I did water parachute there!
If u're a beach lover, do go to Krabi, massages services (clean ones) are commonly found there =)

I have been to Indonesia--Jakarta and Bali and the beaches there are gorgeous and there's lots to see in terms of nature tripping etc.

Thailand is also my top pick but you have to go to other places aside from Bangkok like Phuket, etc.

May I also suggest China? Specifically Shanghai and Beijing...lots of historical stuff to see, the food is great and the shopping is amazing!
