Bases!

Hai Girls!

Last time i went to an actual mac shop (ages ago, didn't know anything) I asked the MA for some sort of base that would keep my make up on all day. She gave me the MAC fast response eyecream. TBH Im not really sure if it works, I just use it underneath my make up everyday. Does anyone know any alternatives. Its £20 and Im wondering if theres much point buying another tube. I have run out but Im not really sure if its all that good.

As for Bare canvas paint, are there any other good bases?

I Like Fast Response Eye-Cream, I rarely put on eyeshadow, so I'm not sure it's the best product for an eyeshadow base. I love it as a concealer base though.

Whenever I do wear eye-shadow, I use Makeup Forever's Lift Concealer to neutralize my eyelid color or if I want to make my eyelids even lighter I use Le Touche D'Eclat or Le Touche Nacré (for a shimmering base).

Not clear on if you are just looking for an eye color base, but here's my rec for face base too.
Face: MAC Prep & Prime Face. Holds makeup on very well. I have combination skin, and it really holds onto my foundation in my t-zone. Possible con about this product: Some people might be sensitive to this product. Get a sample first before trying!! Don't use this products near your lips either. Not good to ingest by accident.
Eyes: MAC Paints (any) are great, especially Bare Canvas. Shadesticks also hold eyecolor on, as well as Cream Color Base (CCB's as they are referred to as on this website). There's also Prep & Prime Eye, which is like the facial one, but made especially for the eyes.
Oh heck, I'll even do lip prep for ya: MAC Prep & Prime Lip. This anchors lipliner, lipstick, and even glosses on like no other. No feathering, no slipping. Fills and smoothes. Love it!

Not sure why she'd give you Fast Response as it's an eye cream and not a base (right? Or have I misunderstood it all this time?). Assuming you already have some sort of eye cream, either the Prep & Prime Eyes, MAC paints or MAC shadesticks would be the bases to look for. The main difference between them is that P&P is "colourless" (well, it matches you skin tone) whereas paints and shadesticks come in colour. The shadesticks are more vibrant and shimmery overall. Most are happy with either the paints or the shadesticks, tho some have still found them to crease on their lids.

If you're willing to look outside of MAC, I'd suggest Urban Decay Potion Primer. It's colourless (no need to match any skin tone), a little goes a looooong way, it's much easier to apply (paints can get messy, shadesticks can tug), your makeup will not budge and some find it makes make-up more vibrant than the neutral-coloured paints.

I have Bare Canvas and Baselight but prefer UDPP. I use paints when I don't care much about vibrancy (i.e. neutrals) or lasting power. I don't have a neutral shadestick so I only use it to really bring out a specific colour, i.e. Sea Me for blues, Mangomix for oranges/corals, Shimmermint for greens.

Sorry so long but HTH!

forgive this but WTH was the ma thinking?!?

The best base to use is MAC Bare Canvas (if your looking for bases)-some people swear by UD Primer Potion but I don't like it because I find it very drying.

I know 'stuff' about make up now and i use bare canvas as well as the fast response cream, i use it but i am wondering WHY THE HELL I AM! I cant really see any reason why that keeps it on! Its such a shame (i think) to see someone who actually doesnt care about make up, but see's it JUST (what other reason would she has recommended it for?) for the money.

Thanks again to everyone! <3

If you have dry skin on the upper lid, Fast Response is actually a good base. It keeps eyeshadows lush and vibrant. It's also a good mixing medium.

My personal favourite base is Select Cover-Up dusted with face powder - evens out the tone of eye area, provides a flexible base that doesn't crack like Paints and isn't emolliant like a Shadestick or CCB.
