Best MAC powder combinations

I'm not big on liquid foundation, so for the past few months I've been using the MAC StudioFix Powder Foundation. I've found it to be kind of cakey, which I had sometimes heard about before I bought it. Soon after applying it I become shiny in mainly my t-zone: forehead, tip of my nose, sides of my nose, and chin. It drives me crazy because SFPF is not the kind of thing you can just keep re-appyling because it just becomes cake-ier. Before I even bought it I was debating between buying this and the MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural, so now that is what I'm going to try next. Question is I was also looking @ the MAC Blot Powder and was going to use these two powders as a 1-2 kick to getting a matte face since I don't use a liquid found. Do you think I would be better off getting one or the other? Would it be too cakey to use both? I would be using the Mineralize SFN all over my face with a kabuki, and then just lightly dusting the blot powder in the areas I get oily. Has anyone ever tried a combo of these two products?

I've only used those products for a short time a while ago, but first, I would say it depends on how much coverage you want. Mineralize SkinFinish Natural isn't classified as a foundation, but it can provide light coverage. It's not cakey; on the other hand, it doesn't come in a wide range of shades. Studio Fix Powder provides heavier coverage but can be cakey. Blot Powder sounds like the better option for touching up since it is specifically made to control excess oil. For additional oil control, you may want to try the Face Protect SPF 50 primer under your powder foundation in the areas that get oily if not on your entire face.

I love Studio Fix Powder and here's what I would recommend:

- I would stick to Studio Fix Powder as your foundation honestly, for reasons nightflower mentioned above. I personally would never recommend MSFN for people with oily skin because in my experience I have found that it WILL cake like no other !

- Try MAC Matte Creme as your all-over primer (comes in a clear tube at a reasonable price). I am oily and have found this stuff to work the BEST, and I've tried both kinds of Prep and Prime, MUFE HD Primer, Smashbox Photofinish.....and MAC Matte wins hands down. It is great underneath Studio Fix Powder, and it has been a lifesaver for me! Also, using Fix+ with powder foundation really really helps. You can spray it on your brush or on your face before applying powder. Use it to set the powder and in between layers as well!

- Instead of Blot Powder or MSFN I would use blotting papers from whatever brand. You are right, with powder foundation, layering can be trickey because it does get cakey and powdery. So you don't want to add additional layers that you don't have too. If you choose to add another powder then I would definitely get the Blot Powder instead of MSFN to use with your Studio Fix Powder. But, I definitely would recommend blotting papers for people who are oily and wear a powder foundation. After you blot you could add a *teeny tiny* amount of Blot Powder or Studio Fix Powder to re-fresh if you feel the need.

- In summary, I would invest in purchasing some Fix+, a mattifying primer, and some blotting papers instead of multiple powders

Thanks for the information. Do they sell the matte primer at the MAC stores? I never saw it. Is it just a pro item?

MATTE is at the counter or a MAC store. They usually have it in one of those cups with items not on display. Just ask for it.
