they are meant to give a "sun-kissed" glow to the face. you apply it where the sun naturally hits the face-the forhead, nose, cheekbones and chin. you can also use it on the neck/chest if those areas are lighter than your face. that way if you are wearing clothing that shows off those areas, your neck/chest matches more closely to your face, or vice versa.
