California - Prop 8 - PASSED

Okay, so since their argument is "Yes to Family" How about me abolish divorce. That will definetly keep a marriage together.

This is so bullshit. It truly angers me that they use kids as an excuse, kids who don't even know what they are supporting right now. And religion is absolutly no excuse. The bible says a lot of things, but people choose to site what they want.

It says rest on Sundays and go to church,it says love thy neighbor, it says to not judge others, but no they pick and chose what they want to believe.

This is basic human rights. We have the right to "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of happiness" so why are we getting in the way of homosexual's basic rights that this government says they're entitled to when they are born. It doesn't even make sense! This is not an issue of the church, or what we believe in. This is humans fighting for basic rights that they are entitled to. They're basic inaliable rights!

You would think here in California we would be more openminded. I am throughly dissapointed with this state right now.

May he who is free of sin, cast the first stone.

I don't quite agree with this fully, although that was a factor as it is in every election. A lot of the reason for the outcome of the vote was heavy campaigning, mostly by the LDS church. They raised millions of dollars, called people, set up huge drives and used other tactics to get people to vote and to pass proposition 8. What I dislike about this was they HEAVY interference by the mormon church in legislation. Anyone ever heard of the separation between church and state? Churches should not being lobbying specific legislation, I don't care what church it is! It is against the law (mostly tax law)! Churches need to butt out, they are not going to be forced to perform same-sex marriages.

Well this pisses me off.

Someone please explain how two men or two women marrying DESTROYS marriage, like some say?

How does what someone ELSE does, affect my marriage?

And this bullshit about the Bible defining marriage as between one man and one woman...

Well, if we have freedom of religion here, WHY are we forcing ONE religion onto everyone else?

Sometimes.....I wonder about our country, I really do.

I havent browsed thru all 10 pages of this thread so Im sorry if this has already been brought up.

Ive talked to a lot of people who are for prop 8. I live in a very conservative area and these people I talk to dont really have a problem with gay folks getting married, a lot of em bring up the topic " I dont want them to teach about gay marriage in school or gay sex in sex ed." Seriously this is their objection. Wow...really ? When I was in school sex ed was about male and female organs, stages of pregnancy, child birth, and STD's. Not about how hetero people and their foreplay, anal sex, or sexuality in general. That was my experience personally. I doubt they will start teaching about anal beads, double ended dildos and gay clubs. I think kids find out eventually thru the media or their peers, and most of the time info from peers is innacurate. Anyway to me that is a dumb reason to be for prop 8.

I wish ppl would quit pushing their morality on the rights of others.

This doesn't hve anything to do with Prop 8, but about homosexuality.

I remember when i was a kid Ellen came out. Now i knew was a lesbian was, and at that stage i thought it was "icky". But i remember she was all over magazines. Parents were enraged! "I don't want to hav eto explain to my kid was gay means!!" Why the hell not? Do you not want your child to be a sensitive, intelligent, compassionate human being? Do you dislike you child that much? Do you just not want to talke to them.

One of my favorite Comedians Louis C. K did a peice about gay marriage, and how parents dont want to explain what Gay is. He thinks it's just because parents dont want to talked to their kids. It's prettyhilarious, but honestly that statement is so ass backwards it's unreal. Who would want to raise an ignorant, naive, sheltered kid that knows nothing about the world. Maybe even about their own sexuality (if they turn out to be gay!).

I think this is the clip (i have no sound at work, ill have to check later)
YouTube - Louis CK on Gay Marriage

In sex ed i dont think we really talked aout sex itself. We talked about STDs, Reproductive Organs, Peburty, And Contraception.... I think homosexuality would be pretty breifly mentioned. A lot of schools don't even teach sex ed (in quebec anyway). I always find it distrubing when Parents argue that Sex Ed should be taught at home by parents. Ya right! Do you know how much would be covered? it would be "Don't have sex. K? Please?" nd kids would be left with looking on the internet, if even.

This is a good read on why gay marriage is wrong, and why it is NOT a right. No where in the constitution does it state that two men can get married.

Gay Marriage Will Lead to the Downfall of Society

What if someone is happy with more than one person, can all 3 or 4 of them get married also? What if someone wants to marry their cousin, why cant they be treated with "equality" also? You cant use the arguement that is morally or ethically wrong, or that its against the law, because those are the same arguements against gay marriage also.

Gay marriage is a pretty slippery slope, isnt it?

Let's have our government decide what people are allowed to do with their own lives, even when they aren't hurting other people or even bothering other people.

That would be my friends the Christians. See: The Crusades.

I REALLLLLLLLLLLLLY enjoy it when someone comes along with an idiotic argument and gets basic facts wrong. First cousins can marry in 26 states.

FAIL.

I love this argument.

I love it even more because if it were made about Islam the response would be overwhelmingly negative and not at all in support of the statement.

Religion is the kind of thing where you can bash your own (to an extent), but it's completely taboo to bash anything besides yours. It's like how girls can call girls bitches, but when guys do it, it's offensive. :l
