Confused about locations of MAC stores/counters...

So the more and more I read--- I notice a growing trend.. a lot of yo have MAC stores or at least counters @ Nordies, Macy's, etc... within a few BLOCKS of your work, school, house, etc.... And I think its safe to say that the majority of you living in the US have stores at LEAST 30-45 minutes away at the most...

which makes me wonder.

Who decides where the MAC stores/counters go? It irks me so much because I ahve to do all my shopping online. I live in ILLINOIS... in Peoria.. which is the 3rd largest city in a state where CHICAGO reigns.... The closest store to me is literally 117 miles away... what gives??? who @ MAC decided that only the northern populous of the state would want to buy MAC and not cater to the rest of the community? I know at the very least-30 girls personally who would DIE to have even a counter @ our Macys (which brings up another pt. our macys was, a year ago, famous barr. Now it's Macy's... even durring the switch no one thought to open a MAC counter in that damn department store)

It really peeves me off. You girls are lucky who have stores and counters right next to you but it seems to me that Im in the minority of people who live in the US and have to travel 3 hours just to get to a damn counter. It REALLY makes me mad.

I feel your pain!! I live seven and a half hours away from my nearest counter..lol, mind you I am not from the states, but who decided that they would put all the MAC locations in only southern Alberta?? I know that Grande Prairie (which is only 4 hours south) could totally run a MAC location...but who decided where they go?? They need to realize all this market potential thats out there!!!

Girl I don't know..... May be writing to them they would take it into consideration..... I have a mall about 15 mins from me and there are 2 counter one in macys and one in nordies. Then theres another mall about 25-30 mins from me they have 2 counter, bloomies and nordies, and a FS Store. There is a third mall maybe 20 mins or so they have a counter at macys and the 4th mall near by which is about 40 mins away and they have a FS store and 3 counter, bloomies, nordies and Macys.
Wow I didnt realize have many MACs there were by me.

I think it really sucks you don't even have one. Lets start a petition........

I've wondered that too! My city just got a MAC counter about 4 years ago... before that I had to travel anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour and a half away to get MAC. So needless to say I didn't go much! Now we actually have 2 counters here. And we finally got an Ulta this year, and a Sephora opened up about 15 minutes from me (but it's in a different city). I don't know who decides what, but I've been waiting for all this forever!

I will definitely agree with you on this one. My area is saturated with MAC locations to the point that it is ridiculous. Within 30 minutes I can get to 1 pro store, 5 stores (and another just opened 3 weeks ago) and 12 counters if I include the SF locations. I can almost say that I thought MAC was more 'special' back in the day when there were just 3 or 4 spots.

Don't get me wrong - the access to a Pro store is wonderful but the amount of counters and FS stores in this area is getting ridiculous as more open every day.

That's a 7 hour radius.. wtf?

One of the stores and one of the counters where I live takes about 2 minutes to walk from one to the other. I don't really get it either.

Ive talked to customer service about it ... and the lady was SO suprised that there wasn't a MAC anything around me.... She said she was going to pass something on but i doubt if ANYTHING ever happens.. I mean I really dont know what to do .. its so frustrating.. I mean there's... count them... 12 MAC locations within a 45 mile radius up in chicago ... and none ANYWHERE else in the ENTIRE state?... Im sorry but im getting even more pissed off the more I think about it. Im SO SICK of ordering stuff online!

I'm lucky. In Vegas there is a MAC Pro store and a freestanding MAC on the same street. And the CCO is not that far from either stores.

Wow that really sucks! I didn't realize that there were so few in northern Alberta. I'm in southern Alberta and guess I just took it for granted that I have so many stores by me. I'm going to be sure to mention something the next time I go.

Argh, do I ENTIRELY know how you feel, but how about one in Champaign?!

I live ~1 1/2 hrs south of Champaign, which means, the closest stores/counters are St. Louis & Indianapolis. I'm pretty much smack dab in the middle. There's not even one in EVANSVILLE, IN, which is about as close as Champaign, to me. Talk about a PITA, oh and it takes a trip to STL or IND to even get a SEPHORA!!! Thank heavens for online ordering, but I can't even go "try on" stuff.

I totally agree- I was just telling the guy im dating that I really think they should put one in champaign.... its UofI for God's sake! MAC would sell like hotcakes!

And Im smack dab in the middle, too... 2 and 1/2 hours to chicago (well, Arora) and 3 hours to St. Louis.

I get so jealous when people here are like "i think im going to wait and see what it looks like in real life"

Must be flippin nice. Thanks, MAC.

Hi! I talked to someone about this a while back and I just had to write you all- because I have sort of a complaint/rant on behalf of about 30 girls (this is not an exaggeration haha) that I know.
Why is there no MAC counter/store or anything in the central IL area? In fact, why are the only MAC locations located in the Northern part of the state? Theres not ONE free standing store, pro store, OR coutner anywhere else in the entire state. What gives???
I spend probably close to $200-$300 a month on your cosmetic line.. Im even considering starting to freelance and would love to work for your company some day- but with no access to a store it makes it a little difficult. Thank God for online forum boards because I wouldnt have a clue what was going on most of the time.
It just really irks me that almost everyone else I know has a counter/store within BLOCKS of their house, work, or school. I have soooo many friends down here that I have gotton into MAC who are just as frustrated as I am with not being able to view the products and shop first hand.
It seems as though whoever is in charge of figuring out where to open new counters and stores completely forgot that the entire state of Illinois who like to buy your products and NOT always online. Im tired of having to save up $100 in gas money just to drive to the nearest counter once every couple of months.
Is there ANYTHING that can be done about this? I understand its probably a long process but are there at least any ideas in the works to get a counter or store anywhere in the lower 80% of the state??? Ive been a religious buyer for the last 3 years and have been crossing my fingers hopeing that soon there will be something opening at least within an hour of me but.. still.. NOTHING. Is there any information you can give me? Can I start some kind of petition??? This is really of great importance to me and I hope to hear from someone soon.
Thank you very much,
Melissa Dickson.

Yeah for you! I doubt they put one up like, tomorrow, but I mean, even a COUNTER in the Champaign mall would be awesome! I would totally choose to go there over Evansville, then! A Sephora would be great, too.

Just some insight. I work for MAC, and my trainer said a lot of the decision for where stores go is based on their current database of customers. So make sure all your friends are ordering from that area and asking for a store/counter. In MN where i live we have 2 MAC stores and six counters. And I know of at least two locations MAC is interested in. Additionally, the more pro cards in existence in the area, the more likely you will get a pro store eventually.

I dont even want to know what it would be to not have a MAC close to me....I'm even lucky when i travel. I had made it a routine to visit a MAC when i go on vacation. When i go to South beach i go to the pro store which is walking distance from my usual hotel i stay...and the reason i even have the pro store close to my job along with 2 counters and a store near by my job as well is because i work on 34th street in NY...thats like one of the biggest spots to shop in the city...theres even a huge sephora.....If theres a petition going let me sign because i dont want my specktra friends to hurt..
