I go by my real name for my makeup artistry business but I'm really getting into photography and want to incorporate the two. For the combined business I have a really cute, unique name..... is it necessary to copyright something like this?

I don't think you need to copyright it, but you should probably think about incorporating and using it as your trade name. That should afford you the protection you need. Probably best to speak with an attorney that specializes in business law. It shouldn't cost too much and would be worth it to ensure everything is done correctly so you're not left with hassles later.
