Expired Make-up?

Hey ladies!

It's my second day using L'Oreal Bare Naturale Mineral Pressed Powder and I noticed that there's a bumpy texture to it (To clarify, when I bought it, it was just smooth and after a few swipes it revealed a bumpy texture). This also happened to my Rimmel Natural Bronzer (which I've had for about half a year now). So initially, I was worried it might be expired... but I just opened the L'oreal so I have no idea!

Ladies, let me know if this ever happened to you if you know what might have caused this!

Ironically, these are also my two 'mineral' purchases from the drugstore...

Hello.I dont actually use the products you mentioned but i would think if the texture changed its probably gone bad.Also i think especiallu with drug store brands it may have been on the shelf for a long time.So just because you just opened it doesnt mean it was just made.Try checking the packaging,sometimes they have expiration dates on them.

It doesn't sound like the product expired. Usually powder products can last pretty much forever as long as they are kept clean and dry.

Bumpy texture on powders usually comes from sebum or moisture from you skin (foundation, moisturizer, the skin's natural oils). Some powder products are very prone to this.

How are you applying the products? If you are using a brush or sponge etc., make sure it's clean and dry. You can try to gently scrape the top layer of the bumps away when it happens. That should make the product usable again.

Agree with Jini. Powder products do not go bad in a few days -- do you have oily skin? what are you applying with? did you wet the products with perspiration or water sprays (some powder products cannot be wet or the bump and glop).

Yes, I do have oily skin & I apply the products with a brush... I don't spray my brush [wet] when I dip into the powders though. True about the the products possibly being on the self for very long..

Still trying to figure this out, so hope what I said expanded on my situation...thank you all in advance !

I have noticed that some of these being sold on Ebay and similar do have an expiration date listed, but FDA says that expiration dates are voluntary and only a guide, so they may expire before or after the marked date - if there even is one. Rules may vary from country to country. Powders do expire, and generally last up to two years unopened I believe, if stored at room temp and out of direct sunlight. L'Oreal mention on their website how you can read their codes to work out when it was made so this may help you? Rule of thumb is to throw out any makeup that changes in smell or texture so if in doubt chuck it out. But as Jinni also said cross contamination can also happen so best to put powder into the lid and use your brush there. Good luck!
