Ok, maybe not theater. But it's definitely different. I would love some recs for application help. I'm 17 but would love to do freelance stage makeup (or even regular makeup) when I go to college! PLEASE give me tips. I know the liner looks sloppy and I have to work on that. thanks again so much

What I learned from college: There's lots of media arts students who are needing makeup artists who'll work for free. Same with photography majors. Theatre majors and depts don't seem to care (at least here in Tucson).

Keep practicing and practicing and practicing! Find other things to help expand your talents (take arts classes in the summer, learn history, etc). See if your theatre dept has a makeup class you can take

Very unique! Lovely color combos too. I like it!

Also, I find that it is easier to practice unusual or intense techniques on other people than it is to do them on myself. If you can rope someone into letting you do their makeup that would make a big difference in your practice too.

Try volunteering for community theater and any other chances you get to keep practicing.

Let us all know what you used, OK?

Keep up the good work.

That looks pretty awesome!

I'm taking "Basic Stage Makeup" from my University's theatre department. It's my favorite class ever!! The first thing we did was buy our textbook, and a Ben Nye "Creme Makeup Kit" from a local costume shop.

That book is pretty much THE BOOK to have for Stage Makeup Artists... It's really easy to read, has amazing pictures, lots of techniques/tutorials, and has tons of ideas to make any makeup artist even better.

I totally reccomend it to EVERYONE.

As far as degrees go, there are a few universities that offer a Theater Major, with an emphasis in Makeup. There is even a University that offers a MFA (Masters of Fine Arts) in Stage Makeup. But from what my professor tells me, if you want to do makeup for Broadway, film, tv, etc, the best school is Joe Blasco.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

I just graduated this past spring with a Degree in Theatre with a concentration in Makeup and the BEST thing to do it VOLUNTEER! Theatres are ALWAYS looking for free help especially in the technical areas. Offer to be an assistant to a resident makeup artist.

Also, I dig your design, but perhaps in the future try covering up the eyebrows. Leaving them exposed takes away from the great design. If you can't do it with just concealer/foundation, you may need to try some derma wax.
