Im going new york on Saturday and im flying from the UK. I plan to bring couple MAC items with me, and it'll be in the suitcase.

What i wanna know is that could lipgelees and paints expand and burst in the case? cos i dont wanna go to my hotel and find that my LE lipgelee has exploded lol.

Also has there been flight rules loosed up? or is it still tight security?

TIA!

umm ive taken lipgeeles and stuff with me before and they're fine. i even put em in my lil suitcase wen i come home on the train n its so busy usually n stuff is thrwn on top but they survive

with regards to security measure, its best to contact the airport ur flying from as i think theres diff restrictions in diff places..

oh and paints wrap them tightly in bubblewrap or sommet coz they tend to "gush" out wen they squashed

Yes the security in america is still very tight as far as i know they still dont allow lipsticks or any other lip product. I know for a fact that the paints arent allowed on the planes.

I know no nail clippers, no scissors or any kind no sharp objects. But yeah call your airport or maybe go to their web page and see if they have a section on what allowed on the air plane beacuse it would be a shame if they had to take some of your stuff.

I'm pretty sure that the latest is that you can bring chapsticks, lipsticks and possibly glosses (I think they might not be allowed to have a wand applicator,) lotion and I'm not sure what else as long as it is in a small zip lock bag.
That's how it was when I flew in October and I think it's the same. As everyone else said, call or look on-line to be certain.
I'm not sure exactly how a zip lock bag protects from explosives being mixed or detinated. Maybe they should put the planes in giant ziplock bags.

Current rules from flying from the UK are here

Current US carryon guidelines are here. The full list of permitted and prohibited items for US flights in both hand luggage and checked luggage is here

Paints and lipgelees are unlikely to explode but I always have any liquids in my checked luggage in sealed plastic bags just in case there is a leak. You can also put electrical insulation tape around the lids of things like lipgelees and shampoos.

I hope you have a great time in NYC and don't have any weather problems.

I had one Lipgelee (Who's that Lady) "burst" on a plane (the crimped part in the back separated so I just squeeze out the color through there....as long as you have everything in a QUART sized ziploc bag (3 oz or less and everything fits neatly) then you should have no problem

Nothing should burst on a plane whether you carry it or check it in your luggage -even the luggage compartment is pressurized, although that's not to say it couldn't get squished during take off or landing.

Have fun in NY! There's lots to see and do!! Definitely get a frozen hot chocolate at Serendipity 3

The cabin and hold of a plane are both pressurized to the same level but when the aircraft is flying at crusing altitude of about 37,000ft, the cabin pressure is significantly lower than the pressure when you took off. Cabin pressure should never fall below the pressure equivalent to an external altitude of 8,000ft. Even at this altitude, the air pressure in the cabin is only 75% of the pressure at ground level. At ground level, the air pressure is typically about 15 pounds per square inch. At 8,000 feet this falls to less than 12 pounds per square inch meaning that a container that is two square inches in surface area experiences what would be like a six pound (3 kilogramme) weight sitting on it at ground level. This can be enough to rupture some packaging.

You can minimize problems with squashable tubes by squeezing the air out and putting the lid back on again. The problem tends to be that as the air pressure drops, the air inside the tube expands and can force contents out of the cap (especially if it's flip top) or even burst the bottom.

Anyone who wants to have a little fun with air pressure can take one of the empty mineral water bottles they usually give with meals on long haul flights and put the lid back on tightly at cruising altitude. Hang onto it until you land (you might need to hide it to stop the flight attendants collecting it as rubbish) and it will have imploded on itself.
