Hair dye question

I'd try stripping the current color first THEN dye the whole deal, so the two tones won't be so dramatic.
Stripping old hair dye varies in effectivness but the best system I've found is to COAT(and I mean heavily coat) your hair with olive oil or some other vegatable oil, let sit for about an hour, more if you can, and then wash your hair with dishwashing soap.

if it's still black, you're gonna have to do some pre-lightening. garnier has a developer rated at 10, which means it's only good for going darker, not lighter

what i would do is dye the roots to match the rest of your fading hair, that way the color would be even, then dye it with garnier.

thats just me though, because i hate bleaching or lightening my hair AGH!
