I simply can't ever make this work for me. Any suggestions?

I use it with gold and green combos, atop various browns, and also with pinks.
I'm using it today with vanilla pigment as a wash first, then jasmine in the crease, and mink pink on the lid. Very fresh and light.

I loveeeee using it over the lid with the rest of this:
Jasmine e/s- all over lid (of course)
CCB in Fantastic Plastic on crease/outer browbone
Sweet Lust e/s- in upper inner lid and upper outer lid as highlight
Angelcake e/s- in crease and very outer lid
Shadestick in Mangomix as e/l (looked good, but doesn't appear in any of the pictures)- rimmed top and bottom

with alot of patience and skill. i like using jasmine w/gorgeous gold & sweeten up for some reason.
