i have no strong opinions one way or the other. my father was half german (at least i think he was. i always thought he said deutch & my mum thought he said dutch....still being debated.) & his last name was hamm. i've wanted to find out more about his family as well as the german sides of my mum's. believe it or not, one of my ancestors names was irish but they were german. apparently, many years ago, some irish missionaries (catholic) went to germany to convert "the heathens" & the followers of the main priest took his name as their surname. i'm having a total brainfart & can't remember the name!
i have a strong compulsion to visit the tyrolean alps as well as northern europe & in between those two areas is germany. i'm sure i'd love it there too.
