i'm not really feeling any of the new collections, does anyone feel the same??? it seems that all MAC does is come out with simular colors that can be created by using other existing permanent colors. It seems that Mac isnt comming out with new and different colors and the collections are comming out too fast for me to save up alot of money. It seems that nothing exciting is comming out and we seem to buy it cause its LE and are afraid we might be missing out later, but honestly who has alot of money to stock up. How mcuh makeup can we use in our lifetime? maybe its just me, but that's how i feel lately-like nothing new or exciting is happening with MAC. (ps- dont get me wrong, i love mac and mostly use only mac, but why does MAC keep producing almost the same colors?)

I feel the same way, that is why I just get the truely unique items that I really like and will use. I would never buy a whole collection.
I am burned out on the "pink with silver" or "w/pearl reflect" description, seems like there is one in every new collection. this is rarely the core of a look for me and can easily be replaced by something that already currently exsists in my collection,or a permenent one.
I am also aqua'd out.
HOWEVER, I am very excited for one of the quads in untamed and LOTS of the stuff in the holiday (Dita Von Teese) collection.
But I do feel that they are working it to death with the hopeful impuse consumption of LE items.
i know myself and what I like and am getting better about what to buy when I see it irl and get all giddy

And I am not afraid to sell/swap stuff off.

rockocco interest me, as well as the zandra rhodes l/s...
untamed seems a little boring, but that's a good thing for my wallet!
hmm...studio mist foundation will be a definitely "pass", as will the VG VI...but i can't lie when i say that that lip varnishes will hard to pass up, as well as the new mascaras with outloud...

nocturnelle certainly sounds HOT though, can't wait for that!

previously each MAC new launches i bound to buy @ least 3 if not more items but lately even my peers are surprised to see that i merely bought 1 or 2 if not nothing @ all from MAC for each of the launch. they even wonder if i m under some form of *stress* @ work etc.. LOL.. (so funny.. when i spent alot they nag, now that i m not buying they are worry)

the time frame for each launch is too close to one another and before i can barely "digest" the new babies here comes another lot. i agree with most of the gers that lotsa of colors seems to be very close and nothing that unique about. for eg. MAC Forest Green powerpoint = MAC New Weed Fliudline. they merely changed it from one form to another..

despite that, i will still look forward to each of the new or upcoming launches from MAC. hoping that there will be some "WOW" collection lining up behind.

pls do not be mistaken that i m anti-MAC. i m just as much a MAC fan! 90% of my mu are from MAC and i have been using them for about 4years+. they are still my ~ first love!

I totally gotta agree. ALl of this has suddenly been a huge turn off for me with mac. And the colors I mean to be perfectly blunt-look just like the color stories from the year before last. There's nothing different. The packaging thats supposed to be cute has really been ugly and its just nothing exciting. The only thing I've gotton excited about is the MSF because I never had one and wanted to see the hype.

I mean it's beyond ridiculous now. I hope next year is better.

"why does MAC keep producing almost the same colors?"

because of what you're saying: they're coming out with all these new collections soooo quickly... how they have any creativity left after that? there's still things i like, but i soooo know what you mean... i've heard it was different in that aspect, before estee lauder conquered our world... jeeze... way to mess things up...

there's a couple things i've liked. pompous blue e/s...softwash grey pigment (though i didnt like it enough to buy it)...there was another eyeshadow i liked from the technakohl, but it was too similar to stuff i already had. i agree that MAC needs to slow down some...lately collections have been coming out too much. i think they shouldn't release collections as often, and when they do release collections, release new stuff that we're for sure going to go after... like the MSF's and like the eyeshadow duos. i'd also like to see more pigments

The pink lipglasses they had out with the last few collections all look the same to me, not much difference between them... or maybe I'm finally sick of buying pink lipglass.

One thing yah gotta remember, is that forever 1 person thats been into MAC for years, there is another person who is JUST learning about MU, and is buying their first ES pot. So of course your going to see duplicates or very similar shades in collections. It wouldn't be fair to the new MAC user if they coulnd't get anything at all like what came out before. SO they release a similar shade, which keeps the old shade special, and creates a new favorite for the new buyer (and for the gotta catch em all people, they get another pot to add to their collection).

I mean when you really think about it, how many diff colors can you really make. I could change the pigment composition by 1% and the color would look identical, but "technically" it's a new shade.

Also

I'm not a huge fan of mixing two or more shades to make a new shade. I'd rather just grab what I want from the pot, instead of layering diff colors.

So far my favorite collection this year has been Amuse. But, other than that none of the collections have blown me away & I'm not really looking forward to the new collections I have heard about either, I just don't see anything that interesting.

Heh i wonder how many total ES colors (not including all the other things that are released in a collection from lipstick to blush to foundation MAC would have out on their counter if they made them all Perm. Prolly a lot.

I'm just playing Devil's advocate but a lot of the things MAC releases woulnd't be nearly as special if they were Perm. Just look at the MSF's. If every shade of MSF were avail year round, they wouldn't have near the hype. Not to mention Collections are made to push the specific trends in MU that are going on at any given time. And as colors become popular again, your going to see colors get re-released. You have to think of it from a business standpoint, not a MACaholic standpoint.

Think about your average MU user, you know the type, the ones that are like, "OMG you spent HOW MUCH?!?!?!?!" when you tell them you spent several hundred dollars at the MAC counter. Collections are made to sell to these types of people. They walk through the MU section of Macy's, they see a pretty poster with colors all picked out that go together, lipstick, blush, and eyes, and they buy the, "Look." And they wear that same look every day until the new trendy look comes out, and then they buy that. That same customer probably wouldn't even have stopped at the MAC counter if all they had seen was a rack with 1000 diff ES colors on it because everything was made perm.

Collections are created to sell a package look to a customer. It's marketing to build hype, just like any consumner product. Personally i've loved all the new collections. I've only been seriously collecting MAC for about a year now. Each collection that gets released has a ton of things I want in it. I'm sure that wont be nearly the same once I've collected shades of every diff color.

It's all marketing strategy.... for both old and new MAC consumers, IMHO. If the olds didn't care, we wouldn't have all this fuss you see here and on LJ each time a collection comes out.

MAC's strategy is highly appealing for all kids of consumers, for different reasons... they made sure they had covered all… and I don't really have the patience to explain my whole point now... lol, sorry, this would be too lengthy! I actually think about this a lot.

That’s why I decided to pass Technacolor and just slowly get all the pro piggies instead.
