Heh i wonder how many total ES colors (not including all the other things that are released in a collection from lipstick to blush to foundation MAC would have out on their counter if they made them all Perm. Prolly a lot.
I'm just playing Devil's advocate but a lot of the things MAC releases woulnd't be nearly as special if they were Perm. Just look at the MSF's. If every shade of MSF were avail year round, they wouldn't have near the hype. Not to mention Collections are made to push the specific trends in MU that are going on at any given time. And as colors become popular again, your going to see colors get re-released. You have to think of it from a business standpoint, not a MACaholic standpoint.
Think about your average MU user, you know the type, the ones that are like, "OMG you spent HOW MUCH?!?!?!?!" when you tell them you spent several hundred dollars at the MAC counter. Collections are made to sell to these types of people. They walk through the MU section of Macy's, they see a pretty poster with colors all picked out that go together, lipstick, blush, and eyes, and they buy the, "Look." And they wear that same look every day until the new trendy look comes out, and then they buy that. That same customer probably wouldn't even have stopped at the MAC counter if all they had seen was a rack with 1000 diff ES colors on it because everything was made perm.
Collections are created to sell a package look to a customer. It's marketing to build hype, just like any consumner product. Personally i've loved all the new collections. I've only been seriously collecting MAC for about a year now. Each collection that gets released has a ton of things I want in it. I'm sure that wont be nearly the same once I've collected shades of every diff color.
