This is a variation on the cut-lippie-boxes-and-tape-them-together solution that has already been suggested.
Since I collect candles, I have a crapload of pretty candle boxes that I can't bear to throw out (and I obsessively keep my MAC containers), so I decided to combine the two together for an elegant storage solution:
When I have a few MAC boxes together, I cut them in half - for this, it's best to open them up on both ends and flatten them, and then close them back up and reshape once you have them cut. I then tape them together in quantities that fit the candle boxes I have selected. I like to do them in threes and fours, as it gives me the most flexibility, but that choice is completely up to you and the sort of larger storage box you've selected.
Hope that's useful!
