MAC 4-pan palettes, when was the style updated? Ditto for most newer MAC Paints, and where to best find some of these?

Back on this scene after a 7 year hiatus, almost, I find myself quite lost. eBay doesn't by far offer what it used to, there are I don't know how many rules on MUA (no selling/buying for example - not even calls for CPs as far as I understand it, or questions regarding these topics?) and what I thought would be quite easily accomplished now feels almost impossible.

So, if anyone here could help with the above three questions, I at least could get an idea about just how scarce the older, now discontinued items would be to get my hands on.

Big thanks in advance!

I think the MAC quads were updated two or three years ago? (I'm thinking two years ago.) Can't answer about the paints, though.

I remember getting a few already made quads before the new empty ones were released. I don't have too many eyeshadows in pan form for personal use, but I love them for my kit :) The 15 pan palettes have been updated and in my opinion, improves them greatly. I've read some reviews on the Mac site saying the magnets don't adhere as they used to but I have since had no problems. It makes sense for the eyeshadows to be visible from the closed palette, which helps me a lot when locating a specific color. So far though, I've had to go to my Mac store for the larger palettes, which is much farther out of the way for me since I usually go to my counter, which is nothing new but recently my counter has a few inserts in stock which I found a bit odd but makes me hopeful! :)

Appreciate the little review of sorts; I really am (was? this helped a little!) quite adversely set against the new palettes. However, do you by any chance have any recollection about approximately how long ago they were updated? Was it really as long ago as 2-3 yrs, as shellygrrl says above? I really would like to somehow try & locate an old 4-pan (they had the clear lid either way). Knowing how long ago it was would help in my guessing just about how hard it'll be. The 15-pan I have is the old style, and well, I just would like the same style, I guess.

I remember the new-style quad was used for ready-made quads in collections starting back in at least fall 2010 (Fabulous Felines), and that style replaced the old one sometime after. EDIT: Did a little digging in the Specktra archives. Fabulous Felines (fall 2010) was, indeed, the first collection to use the current-style quad. So yes, the empty version would have been released sometime after that. (I've not been able to find an exact release date, but it definitely would have been in at least fall 2010.) EDIT x 2: The current-style quads were released in June 2010. http://www.specktra.net/t/159158/new-design-for-quads-15-pan-palettes-and-blush-palettes/60#post_1957155

Thank you SO much, you definitely satisfied my love for details and data;) Ah, so now I know, and also that it indeed will be hard to find an old 4-pan ... let the quest begin:p

I wonder if it may be easier to just buy a pre-filled old-style quad (I've seen some up in the Clearance Bin) and take the pans out? Or you could get something like this... http://www.eyeslipsface.com/elf/sets-and-palettes/palettes/compact_w-_mirror (downside is you wouldn't have the clear lid; also unfortunate is that this particular palette isn't available through the UK store (which ships to Sweden)) Or you could go for a small Z-Palette. But then you'd have a different trade-off: you'd have a clear lid but no inserts, yet you could put more eyeshadows in it. (It'll take nine MAC-size eyeshadows.) http://zpalette.com/makeup-z-palette/black-small-palette.html http://zpalette.com/makeup-z-palette/hot-pink-small-palette.html http://zpalette.com/makeup-z-palette/leopard-small-palette.html http://zpalette.com/makeup-z-palette/zebra-small-palette.html

Aw, thanks for the suggestions! Once I have access to the Clearance Bin, that very well might be an option, I suppose. I pretty much am set on getting an old MAC 4-pan though; the 1st one I don't really fancy the brush in, and the Z-palettes b/c of the lack of insert. Appreciate the thoughtfulness either way:))

Another solution! http://faceatelier.com/face/us/web.nsf/fmPublic!OpenForm&t=catalog&cat=ps As far as I know, Face Atelier's single eyeshadows are also the same size as MAC's, and their 4x palette is exactly the same style as the old MAC quad. It's also up on Hautelook at the moment. http://www.hautelook.com/product/13056633 I know neither ship to where you are, just a suggestion for yet another option. :)

Aaah, thank you!!:D Now *that* might very well work; the logo is nice enough and the palettes ... well, as you say, they're exactly the same. I have accessible help for shipping, so ... thanks agaiN!

Is the quads the special order ones like Wonder Woman? I still miss my super fat liner to complete the cat eye look :-( I find it hard to do without it

Not quite sure what you mean either; I meant the empty ones, just like the empty 15-pan palettes. HTHS.
