It's got to be due in part to the cost of the pigments. Certain red and blue pigments are the most expensive raw materials out there, even in the synthetic, non-natural mineral versions. Colors that use a lot of crimson, scarlet lake, cerulean blue, etc. are going to be more expensive to produce than colors that have a lot of yellow mixed into them. Quick Sizzle, Scarlet Ibis, Prince Noir, etc. all use those sorts of pigments liberally so I'm not surprised they haven't been brought back as perm (yet). When the MAC lipstick prices go up enough across the entire range, it might be more possible to see colors like that come around a little more often, subsidized by popular colors that are also cheaper to produce. If there's one that I think will come back one day, either as a LE repromote or more, it'll be Scarlet Ibis or maybe Party Parrot.
Sushi Kiss, though, is amazing. I love it. Wore it out last night, as a matter of fact. It's one of the best corals to wear in the evening in low light situations…makes your lips look huge and brilliantly glowing. I use my SK all the time and didn't BU it when it first came out, so I am very happy about the perm status.
One other thing - all those peachy coral orange colors are super fashionable right now, very runway forward, so MAC is making a good choice to bring so many of them into the perm line, where most other makeup companies have been a little scared to commit all the way and only offer maybe one or two. Look through current issues of Vanity Fair, for example - all the movie stars are being photographed with pale orange corals and apricots on the lips. It's a basic trend that's going to be around for at least a few years…it's seriously going very mainstream.
Thank you for this information Liba- you're an encyclopedia! The cost factor makes alot of sense. I truly believe Party Parrot will return- until then I have 3 to get through
I am going to have to try my Sushi Kiss again - I felt like a mandarin when I tried it on briefly but I'd love to make it work for me. It's Autumn (Fall) here so I might just look insane but it's never stopped me before!
This orange trend is interesting, I have a few pinky oranges and oranges but I don't use them alot. Betty Bright is quite orangey/coral on me- now that's one that I expected to come back given the trend!!
I think we just want a MAC Cult of Specktra's Favourites Collection
