MAC Hey, Sailor! (Summer 2012) Discussion

Which collection do you all think was better? HS or HC?
I feel like HC has absolutely gorgeous shadows and face products, but I'm still feeling the simple Summer look, so I was more excited about the HS bronzers and lipsticks.
Both collections are fantastic though!

I think i like HC better for face products and HS for lip products. For the eyes i like both. I still love my HS face products, but the MSFs from HC just do something amazing for my skin! They blend in so well and just become one with my skin

I don't think they can even be compared...the colors in HS were so ew, there was no creativity, the only thing I got from it was a lipliner...HC was an awesome collection that actually made me buy some of my most hated MAC product...MEs, and I loved over half of the collection.

I don't think the colours in HS were remotely 'ew'; there are some great blushes and lippies in there that I'll be reaching for all fall even after I've tucked some of the mineralize products away for the winter. I think both collections had some great products; Crew didn't work for me but I know there are many who love it.

I enjoyed both collections for different reasons - I think MAC did a good job with both.

There was nothing special about them I mean...plain dark blue, plain green. plain gold, plain red, neutrals...nothing unique, no pretty shimmers or duo chromes or anything like that. And the most important part...there was no teal.

They have given use SO many fantastic teals the last few years... So I was glad to see that gorgeous green (Feeling Fresh) instead honestly! And I think the color choices were perfect for a Summer collection. VERY wearable for everyday, on the beach, for picnics, fireworks, etc. Lovely neutrals with pretty pops of color. Jaunty is a staple for me these days. I actually wish I BU'd it up. I hadn't found a wearable bronzer until this collection either. The PLW bronzers were just perfection! Sun Dipped I wear everyday. SLV... I don't need to start my rant over THAT lipstick again! PURE LOVE in a stick! Fleet Fast blush!

I think it's just too hard to compare a Summer collection with a much anticipated Mineralized launch. Summer is all about adding unique, but everyday-wearable choices with maybe some bright lipsticks to compliment. Glowy, sunkissed-skin looks. Whereas the mineralized collections always lure you in with the patterns, veins, swirls, dimension, etc... MSF's are so coveted by MAC users too, so they will always be sought after items. The HC MSF's really hit it out of the park! I think both collections stand out as being special in their own way.

I think MAC is doing a fantastic job this year! REALLY stepping up and giving its consumers what they want! Quality, Beautiful Products!

Maybe it's just because the summer collections are always my favorites of the year...but the past 2 years I really didn't like them at all. But then again, I'm not sure if anything could ever top To The Beach, years later and there are STILL items I want from that collection, lol.

I loved both for face products; I bought Sun Dipped, Fleet Fast and Launch Away for HS and then Light Year and Star Wonder from HC. Very different looks but I'm really enjoying both. Same with the lip products; I've worn Sail La Vie a ton but I can already tell I'll use the CSGs and Fire Sign from HC a lot all summer.

Don't get me wrong I still love my blushes, Crew and Sun Dipped from HS, but the HC MSFs are even better on me! I also think it's hard to compare a mineralize collection with a summer collection. I'm glad you are also liking your MSFs, because you wear not sure first if you wanted to get them. You got hypnotized as well?

I also prefer HS over HC. If I had to pick one collection, it would be HS, especially as the PLW bronzers are fantastic. I also love the MSF's I got from HC. But, of course, I am elated that I got products from both collections. Ultimately, it's hard to compare these two collections as the products are very different.

Apparently! At first I was concerned that they'd break me out because that had happened when I used a MSFN. After that, I was afraid they'd be too glittery for my more mature skin and enlarged pores on my cheeks (30 years of oily skin). That's definitely true for the blush, but I love just a bit of MSF over blush as a highlighter and I can buff away the glitter. :)

Luckily these MSFs aren't very glittery. It's a bit strange that a MSF natural (without any glitter) does break you out, but these don't. Ow well at least you can wear these and that's better than nothing!

Maybe it wasn't the MSFN; at the time it was the only thing I could think of. I got cystic acne for the first time in my life and when I stopped using the MSFN it went away. Who knows? I'm just glad these ones aren't bothering my skin.

I've been wearing Warm Soul a lot lately and have recently gotten a couple of the Naturally MB; none of them seem to be bothering me, so maybe it was something else that triggered the breakout.

PixieDancer: +1. Not only do I love both HC and HS, but also adore my Extra Dimension skinfinishes and eyeshadows.

B.t.w. Sail la Vie was made for you! Your picture of SLV made me rush into the counter trying to buy the last SLV. Unfortunately it was sold out and after that my mind took over again telling me I never wear bold lippies. (sorry, you posted your look ages ago!)

Awww! That's so sweet! I REALLY DO LOVE Sail La Vie! I finally forced myself to give it a break for HC's Venus! If you still feel brave enough to try it, grab Scarlet Ibis from the upcoming Marilyn Collection... it's a different formula but it's one of the new creamy mattes... VERY close in color. Will be awesome in the fall! Bright lippies were outside my comfort zone too until I tried a couple from the Iris Collection. Now, I really like some of them on me. You have to at least try one! Wear it around your house for a few days and you will gain the confidence... TRUST ME!! You will look awesome in brights!

Cut Loose is pretty interesting - like the other lip glasses in HS, it's got that really dense, glossy texture with lots of pigment. It's NOT sheer at all, unlike a lot of other white glosses. Used by itself, it really makes the lips look white - the gold wasn't too obvious on me, trying it in indoor light.

I thought it looked crazy good on top of Salute!, so if you adore that one, you'll get plenty of use out of Cut Loose. I thought it was a bit too extreme to wear on its own for me though - it made me feel like a club kid at some underground rave in 1992

You're really making me lean more towards getting it!

I'll add that So Chaud seems to be the exact color of Sai La Vie, except So Chaud is a matte finish.

I think i liked HS better. but i am more into lips and with HS you had Orange Tempura, Cut Loose, Salute, and the gold lipstick which i forget the name of it right now. They stood out enough for me than the lips in HC of course. I'm still on the fence with HC i do really like the blushes a lot.
