Do tell?I have my own opinion about the banana powder![]()
LOL I was about to say those areI have my own opinion about the banana powder![]()
Do tell?I have it but I am not in love with it. Looking for something new that provides the highlight and setting ability but better quality. I purchased it because of all the raves that it gets but I guess that I had my expectations set to high. Considered the one from Laura Mercier but I dunno ...and I heard that the ones from Hourglass are really good.![]()
Yes Richelle! I'm sure it's great, if Banana is your skintone. Problem is, not everyone who buys it is Banana! It's a translucent powder, which is meant to set your makeup, but people dont buy it for that. They buy it to highlight with, cuz thats all they see it used for on YT. Highlight colours, as well as contour colours, are completely different in tint and shade as skintone colours, and when you just usema different colour of face powder, it throws off the contours and high points of the face, and looks unnatural. That's why when you look at actual contour and highlighting powders, they aren't the same colours as bronzers and foundations. They have their own distinct colours to them. Again, this is just my take on them. I'm all for multipurpose products. But i just have a pet peeve when it comes to this topic.LOL I was about to say those arewords!! But I agree some people just should not go there, besides there are other colors to choose from.![]()
Agreed. Way too much to use as an overall powder. It works for me for just under my eyes as a setting powder (I have a lot of yellow going on) but the quality is not impressive IMO.Again, this is just my take on them. Agreed!!Preach Erine! I have Ben Nye Powders, but I didn't buy Banana because I am not Kim Kardashian's complexion. I have the ones that are closer to my skintone because that's what I use them for, to set my makeup, not to highlight, and I actually don't use them very often because they don't control shine. I'm amused at the beauty "gurus" on youtube using that daggone Banana powder trying to get the "Kim Kardashian" highlight.
Honestly, all i know is MAC. It's all I've used for the last 15+ years, and sold for over 6 years. But what you first need to look at is do you want your setting powder to have additional coverage compared to your foundation. Generally you don't want additional coverage from the setting powder, so translucent, or sheer, would be your best bet (MAC P&P translucent-NOT good for photos tho-or blot). If you do want a bit of coverage, something with low coverage, like a pressed mineral powder (MSFN), would be ideal. Next you'd want to look at the finish. If you're oily, something matte and oily absorbing (blot) is what you'd want. If you're dry, you'd want something with either a natural or slightly satin finish. Now keep in mind that a setting powder is a whole different animal than a powder you'd use to touch up with (if needed)! :sigh:Agreed. Way too much to use as an overall powder. It works for me for just under my eyes as a setting powder (I have a lot of yellow going on) but the quality is not impressive IMO. What would you recommend as a good, every day setting powder?

Yeah it was actually made to colour correct undereye discolouration, and has somehow turned into a cheek highlighting product. :dunno:I recently got a prep + prime pen I want it for under the eyes and possibly cheeckbones... gotta say Im not impressed with the formula![]()
Thanks for the recs! I may be going wrong on the finish. I have P&P but I also have two under eye fine lines that seem to attract extra P&P and become magnifiedNow keep in mind that a setting powder is a whole different animal than a powder you'd use to touch up with (if needed)!![]()
Sure thing hun! I use MSFN as my coverage daily. It has a sheer to medium coverage, depending on the brush you use. The finish is natural, so it looks just like your skin. If you want it even more dewy, just spray some fix+ to take down the powdery look if you get a little heavy handed, and for some extra hydration (use as often as needed throughout the day-Thanks for the recs! I may be going wrong on the finish. I have P&P but I also have two under eye fine lines that seem to attract extra P&P and become magnifiedMaybe I will try MSFN. My skin has changed over the last few years as I have gotten more mature (clears throat), so oily is no longer an issue. I will take a look when I am out shopping ....Thanks!![]()
Sure! Setting-used once, after foundation to extend the wear of makeup, alter coverage/finish of makeup Touchup-used multiple times throughout the day, doesn't alter the coverage of makeup, only takes down shineSo Erine darling, since you are offering up such wonderful wisdom, can you give examples of setting powder vs. touch-up powder? I just want to make sure what I'm going is the right thing.
Ben nye are set. CB and MSFN are considered set (tho they do add coverage) or are to be worn on their own. Some people will touch up with them, tho i would never recommend touching up with a powder that adds coverage. If you feel like your face is losing coverage throughout the day, then you need to reevaluate your routine and invest in either a primer, or try a different foundation or something, so that your makeup stays on longer. Unless you completely remove your makeup at some point in the day and have to completely reapply, you shouldn't need to add coverage throughout the day. If you do, something in your routine isn't working right. Correct, MSFN don't do anything for shine or oil control. If that's what you're in need of, then you want either P&P transparent (set) or blot (set and touch up).So the Ben Nye powders are setting powders.. and a powder like careblend or the MSFNs are touch-up powders? Or would that be considered a setting powder? I was told that the MSFN's don't control shine, so if that's what I needed I should get a pressed powder instead? Is that right?
You got it! It's not too much powder at all. :nope: use that blot powder as often as you need to too. It doesn't have talc, so it won't build throughout the day. You'll be good to go!Got it! OMG so helpful, thank you thank you thank you! So it's ok to use a Ben Nye or a MSFN in the morning to set, and a blot powder during the day to touch up? That's not too much powder? And that's my last question I swear! LOL! So so sorry for jacking the thread!
