Honestly, Nasty Gal laying off people is the least of social problems I would worry about. I know MAC is technically made in Canada, but I'm sure they get their plastic shells from China. Everyone with an iPhone or macbook, apple has some of the worst treated factory workers. Basically what I'm saying is take a stand if you want, but there are bigger things to protest than a company needing to make cuts because of financial struggles
I guess it's true, we really shouldn't pick and choose, if we're gna boycott one bad business we better boycott them all (believe me, I try to!). And we can shop from small and local businesses. AND we can donate a little bit of our lipstick money to homeless people, scientific research, getting out the vote, saving the rainforest, animal shelters... Although I think a LOT of us have rescued cats and dogs (and boyfriends). We're a good lot of people. We have to do everything we can do without doing so much that we don't have our sanity left. Lipstick does keep us sane enough to keep earning the money we can then put towards good causes :) you can't be guilty for saving something for yourself, you have to make YOU happy first, THEN save the world (usually you can do both at once). But I support people's decision either way on this collection, just so long as the decision comes from a place of reason and desire to do good :)

That's fine. Do you. I'm not buying a thing from this collection. Also, don't assume that people here don't take a stand on other things. Finally, perhaps it's not a big deal to YOU, but it is to others. I hope you practice this philosophy in your life as opposed to coming on here to downplay the very intelligent decision to not support this collection. I HATE when people do shit like this.

@ramarose I 100% agree with you. People are still going to buy the clothes. And that's all the company cares about. Working conditions are the least of their concern until it gets out. I.E. Alexander Wang when a few years ago got hit with a lawsuit about bad working conditions in New York. Yes, they got bad press for a week. But everyone forgot and the company still made sales and a profit and their image none the worse. Flip that to JP Morgan and the London Whale incident, people still use that bank, I use that bank. At the end of the day its all about the bottom line. The media always picks up a new story to make people forget.
Yes, they do. But I don't forget. I try to protest with my wallet as much as possible. I don't let the flakiness of the media sway me, especially given their commitment to entertain rather than inform these days.

Who is to say that we shouldn't pick and choose??? Who is to say that needing to make YOU happy first, has anyting to do with saving the world??? I didn't realize that those of us who are deciding not to purchase from this collection, are somehow lacking in the personal happiness department.. I love lipstick as much as the next person, but it's not the end all/be all. If you want to buy your lipstick and products from them, go ahead. It's your decision. That's what free choice is all about. Simply put, I read what workers had to say about her and her company. I am not supporting that kind of business. There are plenty of other companies out there that I can and will give my money to. It's not like you can't find a cool lipstick anywhere else. They're ALL OVER the place!!! One last thing I would like to address, is your last sentence, "But I support people's decision either way on this collection, just as long as the decision comes from a place of reason and desire to do good :) " Exactly where are you going with this comment? I hope you are not implying that those of us deciding not to purchase from her company, are somewhat insufficient in the reasoning department. Thanks for listeneing.

Holy crap...! I was just trying to be nice and inclusive and say everyone is doing their best... I don't even know you, why would you just go for the throat like that...? I never even said whether I'm buying or not. That was really cruel. I need to unsubscribe from this thread. Seriously uncalled for, that's bullying. If you dislike nasty gal because of how they treat people, you should really be a good example and treat others with respect too. So ironic the collection is called nasty gal.

That is not exactly the way I read it. You stated your opinion. I stated mine. I had questions about what you meant. I would hardly call that bullying. I was not being cruel. Come on now, you're blowing this out of proportion.

I don't think I assumed people don't take stands on other things, I merely stated that no one boycotts everything that needs to be boycotted. Sorry if I hit a sensitive spot for you, I don't think my comment was attacking anyone's opinion or decision, it was just my two cents.

It would be great if we could avoid starting unnecessary drama. There's no need to attack someone for their opinion.

Nothing worth arguing about in here. What one person chooses to "take a stand" for may not be something someone else would do. Doesn't make either person wrong or right. You spend your dollars where ever you choose to and absolutely no one has a right to feel any kind of way about it. Kiss and make up people. It's never that serious lol

Let me get this straight: If someone makes a post regarding their views on an a new issue; then someone else comes along and airs their views in opposition of the first parties' views, the first party has no right to make any kind of rebuttal question back to them? Only one side gets to comment on someone else's view? That doesn't add up.

Maybe I'm missing something but all I got out of her comment was that NO ONE should attack anyone else about their opinion. Never saw where it was implied that any specific person didn't have a right to have a rebuttal question. :shrugs: But what does seem to happen in many of these e-debates is that someone words their argument in a way that someone else takes offense (or the other person may look at one part of a sentence...take it out of context and catch feelings) and the whole thing turns into drama that veers completely off of the original topic. It should never turn in to something where people are actually arguing with each other. Especially not on the Internet.
