Team Low Buy is made up of those of us who for whatever reason have decided to buy less makeup this year. We all have different reasons and different rules. -- Some of us set a number of items for a month or the year. -- Some set an amount of money to spend per month or the year. -- Some don't want to follow lemmings or buy into the hype, but just get things we actually like to use. -- Some are just thinking twice before buying items that are too much like things we already have, or are colors that don't look good on us. -- Some are getting rid of stuff in our makeup "collection" that we don't really like, that don't look or feel good. -- Some are getting rid of "back up" purchases of things we'll never get to. If i have 50 lipsticks, do i really need 3 of the next new thing? As exciting as a new collection may be, another one will be hot on its heels. If we buy one of EVERYTHING, we're likely to get things that we don't like - colors or finishes that don't work for us, wasting money and product. So it can be sensible to set some limits. If we buy some BACK UPS, often we've spent money on things we'll never get to because we have so many other lipsticks, eyeshadows, blushes, or whatever. Sure, sometimes we discover a HG item in a limited collection. But more often we end up with stuff we won't use up. Some makeup people ran a test to figure out how many uses in typical blushes and lipsticks. A typical blush use was 0.014g per application. A blush that weighs 0.15oz/4g has approximately 286 applications. On the average if someone uses the same blush every day, and applies it twice a day, ONE blush will last 143 days. So they'll only go through 2-1/2 blushes in a year. If i currently have 15 blushes, it will take me 6 years to use them all. Similarly, an typical swipe of lipstick was 50mm. So the average number of swipes in a tube of lipstick was 293. If someone applied lipstick three times per day every day, a tube would last a little more than three months. That's 4 lipsticks a year. If i currently have 30 lipsticks, it will take me 7-1/2 years to use up what i already have. I'm not trying to discourage anyone. I'm on Team Low Buy, but i'm still getting stuff i really want. But it can be helpful to think twice about how long it takes to go through what we have and only get stuff we really love.
