MAC Pro Store in NYC - Pro ID Required???

Hey all, so I was talking to my friend who is an MA at the mac counter I go to here in UT, and she recently made a trip to NYC during which she stopped at the PRO store. But she said they made her show her MAC id in front of the camera before they'd let her up. This strikes me as really weird b/c I was there over Christmas and they didn't make me provide any sort of pro id or anything, they just let me up. I know people have had problems calling the pro line but the store? Especially the one in NYC?

Has anyone had this happen before?

This can't be true!! I was just there last friday for training. During our breaks I would shop around the store section and several real customers were asking me questions. One even mentioned that she doesn't use MAC often! One was a teenage girl! There were definitely not professional makeup artists nor MAC employees.

I have no idea why they would require such a thing for your friend, but it is not typical.

The NY Pro is open to the public, I've been there many times. Just walk in the building and take the elevator up. There's never been a security guard all the times I've gone there. Great place!

You're allowed to take photos, videos, etc. I love it!

this pic is too big

Civilians shop at the NYC Pro store... That scenario sounds kinda weird to me. You just won't get the discount, but you could buy the stuff at the retail value....

So do you have to be buzzed up?
And what do you say just like "Hi, I'd like to come into the pro store"
sorry just never been before and the whole buzzing up scenario sounds weird to me!

No you don't need to get buzzed in. When I finally located the building, it had the thing to buzz which floor you were going to, so I pressed the buzzer waiting for a reply, when a person standing outside just told me, the door was open and I didn't to be buzzed and in I went, and took the elevator. And the only time I was asked if I had a pro card was when I was being rung up. Otherwise no problem at all getting inside the store.

I went last Saturday and I just rang the bell and was buzzed up with no problems. You just wouldn't get a pro discount without your pro card but you are free to shop.

Thanks for your responses everyone, I thought it was a little strange myself, since I have been here with no problem, and I have been to other pro stores without issue too. I am thinking maybe it was a special day there, maybe they had a photo shoot or something

I can't really think of why they would ask for ID.
