So, i rushed out to the MAC counter at a Macy's about 15 miles away this AM to pick up some Marilyn stuff, Forever Marilyn Beauty Powder and The Perfect Cheek Blush. And since there was hardly anyone there (!!!) they asked if i'd like to test the Temperature Rising collection. Would I? Would I? Wood eye?
I tested the lipsticks and lipglasses on my arm.
Altered Beige Lipstick is a creamy pink-ish beige (although the official description says it's "yellow), it's sheer but not as see-through as Carine Roitfeld Tropical Mist, of which i am a fan. And it didn't seem milky/chalky to me. Plus, pink nudes are better for me than warm/orange-y ones, so i am getting it.
I was hoping to skip one of the Dazzle lipsticks. But that is not to be. Sheer Seduction Lipstick is coppery, but not too orange, with very bright color-coordinating dazzle. From swatches i thought it might be too orange for me, but, nope, it is bronzer, so i can't possibly skip. Caliente Lipstick has a sheer muted plum base with multi-color dazzle - oh, be still my beating heart. It looks much better than Oh, Oh, Oh which is too red-orange on me. So, not a skip on either one.
Feel My Pulse Lipstick is too much like so many magenta purple lipsticks released in the past 12 months for me. If you love magenta purples, though, this is a beauty. Me, i'm skipping it.
I didn't even test Liquid Passion Lipglass. From on-line swatches it looks like it isn't too milky, and it coordinates with Altered Beige, so if you're looking for a slightly pinkish lip gloss, this may be for you. I'm skipping as i'm not an avid lip gloss person.
Soft Serenade Lipglass was on my list, but after testing, i've wiped it off. On its own it is a rather indefinite color. It isn't beige, it isn't pink, and it is very sheer. It has plenty of glitter, but not in colors as interesting as some other MAC releases. It will be good to use on top of other lipsticks, but not so great alone.
Underdressed OMGWTFBBQ! I was afraid it might just be another Restless ("dark burnt bronze") which on me is a disappointing rather red-orange. Underdressed is very bronzy but with plummy mauve-y tones, and beautiful glitter. It is distinctive enough to wear on its own, and it will work great over other lipsticks.
Rhythm Lipglass is magenta purple with lovely multi-colored glitter. It's much more magenta purple than Mall Madness, which is more of a pink. If you want glittery gloss to go with all the magenta purple lipsticks MAC has been releasing, this is IT!
I gave the Powerchrome Eye Pencils a swipe on my arm, not a real wear test. I'm getting Rich Glance, a light cool gold, for sure! They are all so pretty, but Life's Luxury (brown with bronzy glitter) and Polished Jet (off-black with pearly glitter) are too dark for me. I'm on the fence about Copper Strip - i like these but they are a bit pricy and i have plenty of copper eye stuff, although reading other people's wear-tests, and how stable and waterproof these are, well, i'm rethinking.
Bare My Soul Quad is lovely and the quality is great for a quad, but i have Club eyeshadow and Blue-Brown Pigment and plenty of nude eye shadows, plus several of the colors are darker than i usually wear, so I'm skipping.
Temperature Rising Quad, on the other hand, seems less dupe-able. And, it's both Team Purple and neutral, so it's very versatile. And, what else can i say, did you see Seven of Nine's eye look with this? Gorgeous! I was hoping to skip both quads, but i can't skip this one...
