Makeup questions … *long* :)

First I want to say “Hi” to all the girls here!
th_hello2.gif

I am very new to makeup, and I need a lot of advice *very long*

I have dark green eyes, medium dark brown hair and light skin with pink (and some yellow) undertones.
hmm.gif

I don’t ware foundation or powder or canceller because I can’t seem to find the right color, every time I used foundation it goes into my pores and also made my fuzz visible and I never seem to get that “is she wearing foundation??” , I always seem to be able to tell that I have something on and it looks and feels so heavy like my skin is suffocating. Plus, I have very sensitive skin and that complicates things but if I could find the right foundation I would definitely ware it.

I do not know what colors work best for me. I have some makeup and I am just going to list it bellow, if there are some colors that are TOTALLY wrong for me please tell me; I use mainly MAC, QUO, Avon and Cory, the rest I really never use.

I am not going to list my lipsticks but I usually ware Revlon Pearl Blushed, Champagne or MAC Tan pigment.

My skin is quite thin and sensitive; right now I am having a hard time finding a moisturizer that I won’t react to. Also I have some fuzz on my face(not a lot but any foundation or powder seems to just make it more visible) and I don’t know how to make it in such a way that the foundation and or powder not to name it even more obvious.

I have no idea how to do my eyebrows. I get them tweezed myself because at the salon they always make them round not that beautiful arched shape. Looking at them, they look ok but they need to be groomed a little and maybe cut and filled in some places and I don’t have the skills to do it on myself (I can do I on other people but not on me, same with the makeup) .

I am about to break down and cry
weeping.gif
, I want to look nice and put together for once !, I am going back home to my country after 6 years and I don’t want to look this bad, I went thru a lot (cancer and some other health problems) so I have lost some weight and now I look skinny and I have these big under eye circles that don’t seem to go away anymore. I really need some help … any advice or suggestion is more then welcomed.

Bellow I will list the makeup that I have, the tools and some things that I may need:

MAC pigments: Pink Bronze, Vanilla, Tan, Old Gold, Charteuse, Violet, Sunpepper, Softwash Grey, Cornflower, Coco, Frozen white.

QUO single eyeshadows: Sensible, Dawn, Dusk and Jealousy.

Cory: Whisper, Vixen, Pebble, Phantom, Element, Tamish, Smoked, Baffled, Perk, Undressed, Dimm, Rage, Rumble,

Avon True Color eyeshadow duos: Classic Neutral Medium, Sinful Chocolate, Forest, Playful and Deepest Rose Quad.

Shiseido(I just hate these, very messy and they really end up all over your face) The Makeup Duos: Iced Blue, Shell Pink, Liliac Haze, Silverscape
Annabelle: Carbon, 127 – brown, Aura – pink, 96 – pure white, Kir Royale duo and another one that has 3 colors: pink, light brown and green.

Revlon: wet/dry shadow in Violet Haze.

L’Oreal: wear Infinite duo in Sandy Buff

Olay – I have a brand new palette that I never used: dark and light brown, dark and very light gray and chocolate and pink/bronze, Arielle Blue $ Blue Frost duo.

Here are my makeup tools, there are all QUO:
All over shadow – I have 2 of these and there great but there quite big
Brow, lash brush
Definer Shadow brush
Angle brush
Powder brush – never used it
Blush brush – never used it
Lip brush – 2 of them, one is retractable so I guess that it’s better to take it with me.

I really think that I need a smaller brush for the eyeshadow and pigments …
hmm.gif

Some items that I know that need to get:
Eyelid primer, probably MAC Bare canvas paint (if there is a better choice please point it out to me )

Powder – I was thinking about NYC translucent because I can find it here in Toronto and it is cheap

Blush – I have a great bronzer from Cory mineral makeup that I can use and the color is really very pretty.

Foundation - I also need a good foundation or something like that and this is the biggest problem because I can see my skin freaking out already.

Canceller: this is a big one! I need it to cover the under eye circles and 1 or 2 little spider veins that I have on one of my cheeks. I need some recs for this.

To have a better idea of what I look like, I have one picture done outside and I just did one right now in the bathroom, I have no makeup on, nothing :

Not sure if I can help much, but here are some suggestions.

Go get your makeup done by a professional. Honestly, that's not only how I learned to apply correctly, but what I needed and what I didn't like. Go make an appointment with a MAC artist and they can also point you in the right direction for colors.

What I also learned is that you need to really moisturize before applying foundation: I use Neutrogena's moisturizers and it helps to really get the foundation to sink in- also use a primer for this as well (MAC has one as well as Smashbox). Oh, and I only use foundation as a coverup thing, not an all over thing.

Concealer- I use the Select Moisturecover for any undereye circles that I might have.

Powder- I've heard good things about another drugstore brand (trying to remember exactly the name right now)... It's the one that acomes in a flower covered case. If I remember when I next log in, I'll edit this. I usually use MAC's Invisible Set powder, but it's not avaliable everywhere. (I'm going to the store later tonight and I can go and check on the other brand)

For eyeshadow primer, use UDPP (Urban Decay Primer Potion). Several girls on the board swears by this.

As for the other things, hopefully some of the other ladies can help you. I've got to hurry up and get back to work

Hello!
First let me say: DAYUM you are gorgeous girlie!
smiles.gif

This is very exciting because we have similar coloring (except my eyes are green!)
greengrin.gif

OK Lets see if we can't get through this:

The next few things are expensive as hell but I kid you not these are the only things I can put on my skin without it breaking out or feeling really heavy!

A concealer that I LOVE is Laura Mercier. I have very sensitive skin (seriously, I put anything on my face its horrendous!). You can get that at Nordstrom or Bloomingdales etc. It's a little expensive but it is *SO* worth it!

If you can (and normally I hate suggesting a primer but that may help out with any "fuzzies" you feel uncomfortable with? You can use a primer on your face again, Laura Mercier's is light, it's not heavy and it doesn't break me out a lot. Also it will create a smoothness so it wont sink in your pores.

For the foundation-I use one of two. I either use Laura Mercier's again but I use the Tinted Moisturizer or I use Vincent Longo's (again expensive as anything but it works for me) liquid canvas healthy fluid foundation.

The trick with foundation is to "spot" use it. Use it only where you really need it. I paid an arm and a leg for both foundations (VL and LM) but I seriously have had them for 2 years. You just put it where you need it. Put it on your cheeks, on your chin etc.

With that you don't need powder. I usually shy away from powder because it makes my pores look like freakin craters! The Tinted moisturizer from Laura Mercier should help with the moisturizer.

For Moisturizer that I use only at night-I use Murad Vit C night moisturizer. It's very good because it gives me all the stuff I need and it doesn't break me out. Or you could use (again-I swear I do NOT work for this woman!) Laura Mercier moisturizer and toner. I've also recieved very good results with this.

OK So on to the makeup

Brows-you've been to the salon and they don't help? Maybe go to another salon, tell them exactly what you want. To groom your brows you just need to brush them into the shape you want and use a dark eyeshadow (Mac Mystery?) on them using a brow brush.

Now, use your bronzer/blush you said you have that you really

For the eyes- I think you have beautiful colors and this is how I would wear your pigments-

If you have to have a eyeshadow base-DEFINATELY use MAC Paints. I love Bare Canvas! That is what I've had really good results with but a lot of the girls here love UD PP I guess you can't go wrong either way
greengrin.gif

Use your big fluffy eyeshadow brush and apply your VANILLA Pigment from lashline to browbone
Take a smaller eyeshadow brush (another girl will have to tell you which one since I am mostly familiar with MAC brushes) and use MAC Coco from lashline to crease
Then use MAC Softwash Gray in the crease and outer 3rd of the lid
You can then use a gray or black eyeliner

You can also do Old Gold from lashline to crease, Chartruse in the crease and outer 3rd of the eye and Vanilla

Or use Violet, cornflower and softwash gray etc

For the lips-it seems that you like very nude pinky lips.
Have you tried Revlon Shimmering Sand? That's a nice lipglide. I also love MAC VGV lipgloss.

I hope I helped some. I know I suggested a lot of expensive brands but if you want I can send you a sample of the LM? I just think that a TM is a lot better for that "Is she wearing foundation or not?" look

asnbrb-are you talking about Coty airspun loose powder? Or Cornsilk?

You are gorgeous my dear!
If you want some sheer coverage, I would go with a tinted moisturizer. I like Laura Mercier for this..I use the oil free one.
In terms of concealers, a lot of my customers seem to really like these Vincent Longo concealer duos for undereye. I haven't tried them myself, so I can't attest to them, but they are on the creamy side, so they'd probably be better if you have a dry undereye area.
I found a look on sephora.com that I think would be gorgeous for you: http://www.sephora.com/browse/article.jhtml?id=400016

Thank you for the nice comments

but really now, I look BAD, there is no way around it. I think that age and months of being sad and worried are just catching up with my body.

I already called the MAC counter that it’s closest to me, their appointments are $55 (didn’t know that they are charging money but if it works I guess it’s a small price to pay and I get a free mascara) but I just wasn’t that impressed with the girls makeup. Someone told me that I should go to a makeup artist that has makeup on that I like to ware and in a way it makes a lot of sense …

I am going to Shoppers Drug Mart and look into the Tinted Moisturizers from Laura and the Concealer. Also, I will buy NYC translucent powder because it’s cheap and if I don’t like it at least I didn’t spent a lot on it, many people on MUA love it.

Can I just ware powder and maybe some blush rather then putting foundation on? With my skin being so crazy, keeping it simple it’s the best probably.
hmm.gif

I don’t remember seeing Coty powder but then again I didn’t really looked for it, now I will.

you can definately wear just a powder and blush, your skin is really nice! if you end up wanting/needing a foundation, you might want to check out some mineral makeup. you can get free samples (you only pay for S&H) from http://www.everydayminerals.com

as for your brows, they look really good to me! i have way sparse/light brows ugh, they suck! but here's a few tutorials that may help you out with the brow issue a little:

As the other girls have said, you're really pretty! I hope you can find that makes you feel as pretty as you are!

I noticed you're from Canada, so I suggest to book an appointment at a MAC counter at The Bay. They charge $40 but you receive it back in product (i.e. please buy $40 worth of products!). I think you called a MAC store, which does charge more.

Or you can book an appointment at Sephora. Those are free, IIRC, but I hate not buying anything afterwards, and the lines @ Sephora are more expensive (which makes it much easier to love MAC!).

HTH and good luck!

Great advice blahwah!; see, I would have never known all this stuff …

Tonight, I did my first full face makeup and this is what I got, sorry but the pics are not extremely good and they ware too big (can’t make them smaller) so I had to uploadem on a website first:
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=4dhf8xx
http://tinypic.com/view/?pic=35j9qxc

I used:
Cory perfect peach powder/foundation that I applied with my big Quo powder brush
Cory Tahiti bronzer

On the eyes:
MAC Vanilla all over
MAC tan
Quo Dawn at the corners
MAC – some blue pigment at the ends also for a little spunk.

This time I did really good but it took me a lot of time and I bet that you can see it in daylight.
Next time I will do this during day.

I wonder how my skin will react to this …
