I'm soooo excited

One of my dreams (i've many) is to travel to the states, save my money to buy an old mobile home and drive around the country.. Well, at the moment i'm not able to do that (no permanent job, i'm studying)

But.. (there's always a "but") I've saved money and I'm still on it, to spend at least one month in the US. I'd like to go to the east coast (i'm dying about going to New York or Boston).

After explaining the idea to my mum, she's told me that she has a friend that works as a professor at UCLA and that he could maybe help me to plan my trip, help me choose an accomodation.. So now my initial idea has changed and I'm planning to go to L.A!

I would like to ask you about the best date to go to L.A. I was thinking about September 2010 (yeah I know, far far away xD), because I usually have a full-time job from June/July to early September. I don't think I should have to worry about the weather, am I right?

Oh! One last thing.. While there, I'd like to take some lessons to finally improve my english. One option that crossed my mind was exchanging knowledge.. I mean: I teach my language to someone able to teach me english. Bad news: I'm a spanish speaker and as far as I know almost everyone in L.A has basic spanish Knowledge :p

Any ideas about where to go (short breaks), how I could improve my english or anything related on what to do for a living are wellcome. In fact, every comment is wellcome

a good way to improve your english (fun also) is to watch english shows and movies. that's how my mother learned most of her english when she immigrated to the U.S. good luck and have fun on ur trip! LA is awesome! i lived in the LA area for 5 years and yes almost everyone has can understand some form of Spanish!

i totally agree with the above poster. my friend moved from Columbia to the uk only knowing a few english words. but because she watched so much uk tv and english language films she learnt the language much quicker than i was expecting!
