naming pets

my sister and i found a discarded fighting dog in the parking lot at sports chalet. she has scars all over her from being bitten and scratched, but she is so sweet. we took her to the vet and she has a knee injury, but i got her all set up.

she's very mild mannered, which is probably why someone just threw her out the way they did. we brought her home and introduced her to my dog, whom she loves, and she's got the biggest dog smile on her face now.

we think she's a pit bull/boxer mix and the vet said she's about six to ten months old. she's full of love and she hates being by herself, she always tries to get up and follow you if you leave her. she likes to be close to my german shepard, she kept getting up and coming to lie down next to her.

now she just needs a name...my shepard is named nessie, so my sister suggested tessie for the new pup, but i just can't decide. how did you all name your pets?

kimmy - you are so wonderful for taking this sweet girl in! It never fails to amaze me how people can discard animals like they are garbage. And fighting dogs to begin with...........I really don't have the words to express how reprehensible I find that practice. Good luck with her, she sounds like an angel and she will fit in well with your family. She has such a sweet look about her.

When I was in college I adopted a stray cat who was behind a dumpster and was playing in a patch of basil - hence, he was know as Basil.

My cat growing up was called Wolfie - named by my mother after Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart.

My boyfriend suggested Scrappy... which is kinda cute, even though dog fighting is absolutely disgusting. She's a real beauty though, I'm glad you rescued her!

When naming my pets, the names just kind of came to me and "fit". When I got my kitten a while back, she remained unnamed for so long!!! Then I decided on Lucy, after Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds (I'm a huge Beatles fan).

Thank you for taking in that sweet girl. I can't believe that someone would just discard her but thank God you were there to rescue her.

Naming pets is so hard but I think that Tessie is adorable. I like really old fashioned or regal names for pets like Pearl, Rose, Lily, etc.

She looks so sweet! Maybe something that reminds you of her personality?

I named my first pet, a ferret Fats because after trying out a bunch of names that weren't awesome, a friend said, "Why don't you just name him Fats?"

Besides that, I just use names I think are cute and quirky (pancakes, tokyo)

That's so awesome that you've taken her in so she can have a loving family to care for her.

How about Shadow? Since she likes to follow you around when you try to leave her. I think people think of this as a male dog's name, but I tend to think words should be unisex. Other names that might be nice: Lady, Bella, Trixie, or Soba, like the e/s!, because of her brown coat.

I'm not good at naming animals. My dad always seems to come up with the cute names, but I just wanted to say I love people like you.

You are such an angel to take her in. Its so horrible that ppl, treat animals like they're disposable or inanimate objects. I think Lucky would make a great name except if you're going for something less common. How about Felicia it means lucky in Latin.

My pug Magnus was the runt of the litter and almost died. He was a little fighter....so I named him Magnus after the Worlds strongest man winner! Magnus Von Magnussun. I have his picture in the pet link on here!

That makes me livid that someone could be as cruel as that and just dump/abandon an injured pup. Absolutely sick to my stomach.. I wish all the people in the world like that would that would be attacked and eaten alive by tarsand beatles. I have a strong hate against people like that.

As for the puppy and you for finding it. I am so happy that someone like you had the heart to take her in and give her a wonderful home, all the best to you. I hope you both have an amazing journey together. Rescue dogs are always the best pets because they are always so forever thankful towards you for being kindhearted and helping them. If only the world had a little more of you and a whole lot less of that horrible monster that would subject another living creature to those horrible conditions.

awww poor girl!! Ive seen such terrible people bringing in animals to just Toss away as if they were donating some old shoes to the goodwill.

Tessie is cute, but it may confuse your dogs, as dogs aren't going to be able to tell the difference , the names sound very similar, I like the name Ginger, that someone else had brought up.
