new black hair

I've recently dyed my hair from red to black. Are there any colors you would recommend that look especially great on someone with dark/black hair? Anything at all will be helpful...eyes, cheeks, lips. I'm always up for buying more colors!!! Thanks ladies!!

I'm not sure of my skin tone...but the newer pic in my profile is closer to my color. My avatar has been photoshopped and it makes me look paler than I actually am.

I have black hair at the moment and I have great news for you. You can get away with nearly everything. When my hair was red I felt restricted colourwise but now anything goes

As black hair can wash you out a little I find that a nice blush wakes the face perfectly. You look like you may be a similar shade of skin to me (nw15). My fave blushes are Blushcremes in Blossoming (pearly peach), Britwit (a neutral), and Posey (for a rosey cheek).

Subtle red lips look great with Black hair too as long as you aren't wearing to bright or dark an eye combo. Venetian Lustreglass, Budding Lustreglass, Culturebloom, Poppy Hop, and Strawberry blonde lipsticks are fab also.

Remember to darken your brows accordingly too, this will frame your eyes perfectly.

Thanks so much! That helps tons. I am sort of a newbie to MAC and just not real sure of anything. haha. I hadn't really thought about my eyebrows, but that does make sense. Ill have fun playing with the coloring at home. I'm not sure what color my skintone is. The studio fix I bought makes me break out, so I don't have it with me to look at the color.

I'm glad I can wear pretty much anything. I love big bright, funky, vibrant, eyes. I agree about the red, even with clothes. Everytime recently I've gone shopping...I have to remember not to worry about that pink top or orange, red, etc. top clashing with my hair. Yay. I am loving the black tho.

my hair is naturally dark (atm a dark brown shade) and i have blue eyes and extremely pale skin (nw 15 is a bit dark on me.) i LOVE using black liquid eyeliner and red lips (i find russian red suits me well.) AND its my fav because i am russian. haha. :]

I have black hair as well and like someone already mentioned, you can get away with most anything (depending on your skin color, of course). I am super pale so I pretty much have a white canvas with black trim to work with, I love it! I never feel restricted with colors and I love that.
Also, I think smokey eyes look awesome with black hair and you can get away with red lipstick so easily.
As far as e/s goes, if you wanted to be super particular, it'd depend what color your eyes are. Mine are green and I wear purples alot!

I have very dark chesnut hair, almost black. I am a olive-yellow MMM (C40/C25) with hazel eyes and I like a more pronounced eye so I don't look washed out. Bronzers like Nars Laguna/Casino (depending on skin tone) are good to warm up the face. For lips, I like a corally light pink (Ciao, Manhattan) or a warm apricot.

but yeah i agree with everybody on saying when u have red/green/pink hair u cant do certain colors but when u have black hair u can preety much do anthing! so have fun.

when i had my hair black i decided to add some purple [as seen in my icon] beacuse yeah ive also has some funkyness to my hair and i worked at a salon then so anything went haha

faux and hug me lipsticks would look good on a person with black/dark browinsh hair so would umm whats that blush called sweet williams and definitely dollymix and all that glitter

for brows, i use a combination of carbon and espresso. espresso balances out carbon, so that the black isn't too harsh for brows, but still makes your brows and hair look nice together.

a smoky eye look using deep browns and coppers, with a little black smudged eyeliner can also look nice, and is a nice variation from the everyday black smoky eye. i never thought i'd like a brown smoky eye until i saw it on. i use espresso, bronze, and black tied, with blacktrack liner.

natural, flawless, shimmery skin looks good. i usually use studio fix fluid with a lighter MSF lightly dusted over it, and finish everything off with glossy pink lips. if you can find pinkocrasy chromeglass, GET IT! it's the best glossy pink i've ever seen, without looking super tacky, lol.

i have violet black hair right now, and i'm pretty pale (NW15) with green eyes. black hair does pretty much allow you to do anything with your makeup from bright green eyeshadow and red lips to a completely nude look. i'm really liking Rockocco l/s and Pure Vanity l/g right now (reds from the new collection) with natural looking eyes and usually some winged eyeliner, like Marilyn Monroe

black hair is really good for doing those old 40s/50s glamour looks

i think Girl About Town l/s looks gorgeous on girls with black hair, too. HTH!

I actually just died my hair a nice dark mohogany brown color. I played around a little with makeup, and I am so excited to see that most everything goes with super dark hair. I have olive skin, but it does wash me out a little, so I am going to try some of my pigments (fuschia, ruby red, accent red) as blushes to brighten it up a bit. A nice dark Fall lipcolor seems to go really well. I tried MAC "O", Overload and Wild About You.

when you have really dark hair, a bronzer can really help defeat that washed out look, too

i wear MAC Refined Golden bronzer daily, it gives me a nice, lively look

Welcome to the Dark Side! The good news is you can pull off nearly everything. The challenge is to avoid looking "witchy". This is best avoided by either going dark on your eyes or your lips - but not both. GlitzieGal has lots of FOTD that are perfectly balanced.

I also have black hair and I just play up my fair skin with a nice blush or something to give it some colour, and you can pretty much do any colour you like otherwise, just something that goes with your skintone and eyecolour.

Thanks for this. I would have no clue what colors to get or try for my brows. I already have carbon, so Ill be needing to get some espresso. I've always prided myself on NOT being a girly girl..hehe.. But, now with the dark hair I am excited to try out some pinks...Ill make sure I keep a lookout for that pinkocrasy chromeglass.

i love teals when my hair is dark. i've never had black hair (just dark brown), but brighter colors seem to look best, or at least you can pull them off better!

I used to have darker hair (it's faded since then) and I used Bateau for the brows. It matched up great.
