New hair do? Highlighting just the layers?

Im not sure how to explain this but if it makes sense then YAYAY!!

anyway...im going to have my hair done for my birthday and its just above my shoulders at the moment and its brown. i want to grow it but i want the layers so you can see them and i want some highlighted. and thin lengths. does that make any sense? and a sweeping side fringe. could anyone find me any pictures please because im having no luck. my hair is light brown, what colour would you suggest having it highlighted?

I'm not sure about the layers..didn't really understand that bit,but I'd go with bright blonde highlights with the brown.I like that whole contrasty,funky look so I'd say it would look cool.I have medium brown hair and I'm having blocks of platinum blonde colour put into it on Tues.If you don't want to go that dramatic with it,maybe go for nice caramel/golden blonde highlights..you can't go wrong with that.
