I applied for a job through craigslist and got a reply back saying I am qualify to have the online interview before having the interview for the position. Has companies ever done online interviews before giving the interview for the position that a job seeker apply for?

its most likely a scam, even craigslist has a warning for this type of scam before you can search the job posts. sorry.

I don't know what kind of job it is. But I applied at Petco or Petsmart one time and they had an online application plus a 'test' you had to fill out before your app got submitted. It was questions about making decisions dealing with customers, internal theft, etc. I worked at a company that made me take a phone "test" along the same lines before I got hired.

Hmmm, this sounds dodgy to me. I don't think that any reputable companies will have you do an online interview, usually they like to see you in person. I could understand an online application, but for interviews companies like to see you in person, not behind a computer screen.

Here is what the e-mail said:

"Hello ,
The Hiring Desk of the company has just reviewed your resume and we believe you have the required qualifications to undergo an online interview..

To proceed with this Office Assistant position, you must undergo an online interview via yahoo messenger. You are required to have a yahoo instant messenger on your computer.

I want you to setup a yahoo messenger (IM) if you don't have one and Instant Message me (Mr Peter Packer ) on my yahoo ID ([email protected]) asap for the interview so you can get interviewed for the position.

Hope to read back from you soon.

Kind Regards
Peter Packer"

The title for the position that was on craigslist said "Office Assistant at Retail Company".

I'd Google the company to see what you can find. Don't give them ANY personal info!

...Was his name really Peter Packer?

No, no, don't do it! It's a definite scam (as if the Peter Packer wasn't a dead giveaway) Just googled part of the message:

he Hiring Desk of the company has just reviewed your resume and we believe you have the required qualifications to undergo an online interview - Google Search

I initially thought it was going to be a pervert but what they actually want is your banking information. I've given up on craigslist. Too many perverts and scams. My friends and I were looking for houses to rent and found way too many scams to even believe any listing.

thanks. I told him I couldn't do it because I don't have a computer at home. Next time, I receive an e-mail like that, I know that it is a scam.
