Painting nails = mess

I love painting my nails, and now that I have good product I want to have my nails look good. I suck at applying the color so bad I get it every where. How do you gals get your nails to look professional every time you do them? Every picture I see on here everyone has a little space between the color and the cuticle. Not me lol, help? Thanks!

I use small, rounded paint brush that I bought at Michaels dipped in pure acetone to clean up the edges around my cuticle.
This is the best picture I could find that demonstrates the type of thing to be looking for:



End result: clean cuticles!
