This is gorgeous! I have always heard that as well so I used to generally try to avoid it, but recently I realized how much better and more "put together" it looks when they match. Especially when the eye look is bold it looks better, as opposed to just a sheer wash of color [the way most non-makeup obsessed people wear their makeup]. Haha!
