Ive been doing my hair forever. Bleaching dyeing cutting. I haven't gone to a salon in 3 years. I usually dye my hair funky colors with semi permannent dye. and im sick of the fading. So I was thinking Ik it says dont mix with peroxide but i wonder why. wouldn't it permeate the color into the hair shaft. Do they put it there so it doesn't last longer and people have to buy more. they recommend bleaching before applying so are they worried about over processing. Well if anybody knows please tell.

But...

As an experiment i took a small strip in the front of my hair and and i have applied 2 parts hot hot pink with 1 part 40 volume peroxide and 1 part powder developer onto hair bleached 3 months ago. this is to see if it will not only bring up my roots and add the pink and i will post updates on if it worked and how long its lasting.

again please tell me if you know why its not reccomended or have any ideas

Maybe it's cause those bright semi-permanent dyes are vegetable based and don't react the correct way if you had a developer.

Let us know if the experiment works.

I'm going to try again with the peroxide and dye for my next dye. because it wasnt under the best conditions but yes it did color my roots a dark pink. quite pretty color actually.

Sounds like your hair might be overprocessed and is rejecting color.. you should see a color specialist maybe they could even it out for you.. also a break from coloring is always good... good luck

I do know how to fix my own hair. For the amount of bleaching I do my hair is in fine condition. I straighten my hair daily and it never looks dry or burnt. I know how to make the dye last longer with the proper protein filler and regimen. But it is not designed to last more than 2 weeks without fade on it's own. I'm experimenting with adding peroxide to make it permanent.
