Sometime I think the nude lip/dark eye look is getting

rather overplayed. Does anyone here ever wear a medium-darker(depending on your coloring/preference) toned lipcolor with their smokey eyes? Seems like this would be a fresher look. Opinions?

I prefer to wear a nude or beige lipstick with smokey eyes, because if I wear anything too dark on my lips, I look like a drag queen.

Im gonna second the pretty kitty on that one. If I am going smokey, I prefer a nude look. I think a stronger lip would only compete with the eye.

i'm gonna third this... when the eyes are strong, u don't want to have a strong lip.. a lighter to medium toned color looks better imho...

I don't mean dark eyes dark lips, I mean a dark eye with a medium toned lip...if it's done right it doesn't look like a streetwalker(on most people).

Use a lip-colored "nude" like faux and then a tap of lip conditioner to gloss it a bit...doesn't give the death look of something like peachstock or blankety when you don't feel you can pull it off....though I still own peachstock and blankety, I just can't wear them solo!

I think it balances it out, dark and nude but I usually wear clear gloss or spring bean anyway. I look too much porn star with really nude lips and dark smokey eyes. Some people do the smokey eye and nude lips toooo much though!!! So I see how it can be over played out.

I'm the same, beautifulxdisaster. But I don't tend to go for a really dark smokey eye, I prefer a more subtle smokey look. But my favourite glosses to pair it with are:

Clear (like one of my Juicy Tubes)
Spring Bean
Viva Glam V

Nude lips don't really suit me so I'd rather tone down the eye makeup just a tad and wear a more "normal" looking lip colour.

Yes I love the smokey eyes with the nude lips its sexy! it makes me look exotic thats why I love this look. Dont want to over do your make up with dark eyes and like a darkershade of lips like what prettykitty says you will look too drag queenish. I think its classy to have the look and very sexy.

I think they all can work (light/medium/dark lips) with a smoky eye...you just have to take into consideration your features, personality, outfit and occasion. I don't believe in strict rules, as long as you can strike a balance and know your own limitations.

I love doing dark eyes and medium toned neutral lip, only because I have very pigmented lips, so pale ones look odd and patchy on me. I can't be asked to maintain concealor to lighten them, cuz it shifts eventually. If it intimidates you at first then use a deeper gloss instead of lipstick.

If anyone wants to experiment with a stronger/darker/more vibrant lip color, then smoke your eyes with browns, or even greens or plums. Smoky doesn't have to mean heavy either, there are so many variations you can play with. My fav is using any color shadestick all around top n bottom, then smudging Smolder 'rock chick' style into my lash lines.Ok I've rambled long enuff!

Nude don't mean pale lipcolor like a concealer!! Nude is your lips but better, a neutral color. That's why I said 'nude' and 'beige' because I like 2 ways to wear my lipsticks with a smokey eyes.

Angelina Jolie does the best 'my lips but better'' look. Her shade of lips always looks natural but fresh and with just enough pigmentation.

I don't do nude lips-I think I look like a corpse with it so I rather tone down eye make up; but dark make-up look doesn't particularly suit me etiher anyway. 8)
I usually wear a MLBB lip color; my lips are heavily pigmented so MLBB shade doesn't equal nude lipcolor.

I think it all depends on the situation. Some times, say if I'm going to a club or some place dark - wearing a bold lip with a bold eye is just fine.
