Themes

I know that not everyone that reads this forum works for MAC and plenty of you do. As we all know MAC is really into doing themes. At my location we do a theme every friday and saturday and sundays are Viva Glam day. So.... we really need some inspiration for themes.
I'm not the product specialist but I'm good friends with the girl that is and colaborate with her on a lot of our themes. We've had some trouble getting our entire counter to really get into the whole thing.
I think it is really important to get the focus back to being about beautiful makeup and not being too strict on what has to be worn. After-all there are some people that own certain styles of clothing or feel more or less confident in certain styles. We want everyone to feel like they look their best.
With all of that being said, some of our up-coming themes are doll day, hip-hop theme (don't know what that will entail), and princess day.
Do any of you have any ideas for themes that you think would be awesome? Themes you've done or seen that you thought worked really well? Even some that went bad and what you might do differently?
My two favorites from my location were a 1930's theme where we made really cute little veils for each persons head and Calendar girls day where each person wore a sash with a month on it. I was Miss October with spiders in my hair and all, very fun.

Maybe you could do like....an icon/legends/celebrity day and someone could do their makeup like Marilyn Monroe, Madonna, etc.

Or just silly things like Christmas in July. Clown day, comic book day, rocky horror picture show, mermaids/under the sea.

Just some ideas...(and yes, i got half of these from the Challenges forum) lol

Maybe you could do some themes based on cultures? I saw some cool Arabic eyes fotds done and it'd be neat to see people's interepretations of it. Another could be geisha looks, tho not necessarily with completely white faces, that might be freaky! But it's an interesting way to have red lips and one or two bright colours washed over the eye (modernized geish, of course). Maybe a Latina day, North Pole day (not quite culture, more place, but y'know what I mean, yah?), one with an African/animal theme...

One area to look into is maybe the themes used in America's Next Top Model? I'm always curious to see how they'd do makeup for their shoots. The latest season's shoots in China were running through my mind for other Asian themes.

Well, maybe not the best ideas but hopefully it gets the juices flowing, lol!

I think every counter has trouble getting everyone to participate in all theme days consistently.

Miss supra had a good idea...maybe have everyone throw in an idea in a box and then your PS can put the colors/looks together from the ideas. That way the artists will (hopefully) be into it, and they will feel like they have imput. To be honest, I think some artists get tired of being told what to wear on their face all the time.

We did this a lot at my location. We had everyone design a theme for a weekend and would pick one or two a month. This helped those who wanted to move into a PS role get some practice & also helped everyone feel a bit more validated.

As PS I had such a hard time trying to get anyone (even the other PS & some management) to go along with my themes unless it was all black & a natural, face. My masks and costumed themes would not fly except on a very special occasion. So you have to get a feel of what your staff is willing to do and work with that.
